Monday saw them arriving, happily greeting one another, re gistering and making new ac quaintances. While in Raleigh they attend ed classes, were privileged to hear speakers such as Dorothy Thompson. Dr. I. O. Schaub, Dr. | Jane S. McKemmon and Gen. Dwiglxt D. Eisenhower. They tour ed Raleigh, visited the Governors mansion and other historical spots of interest. DAVID ROSS, Chairman Brunswick County Board Elections Increase Noted For Brunswick Increased Number Of Per- ' sons Covered Under Em- 1 ployment Security Law 1 Last Year As Compared | To 1945 Virtually all of North Carolina's 100 counties shared in the in crease from 1945 to 1946 in num ber of employers covered by the Employment Security Law, num bers of workers protected by the law, average weekly wage and total wages paid which went above a billfon dollars in 1946 for the first time in the State's history, according to report re ceived here this week. Brunswick county, these records show, had 14 employers subject to the law in 1945, a figure which had increased to 18 in 1946, or 28.6 percent, as compared with the State increase from 11,584 in 1945 to 13,122 in 1946, or 13.3 percent. This county, in 1945, had 259 workers protected by the law, a number which had increased in 1946 to 368 workers, or 42.1 per cent, as compared with the State increase of 11.1 percent, from 526,357 in 1945 to 584,901 in 1946. ' Total wages paid in this coun ty to covered workers in 1945 amounts $368,918 as compared with $493,695 in 1946, an increase of 33.8 percent, as compared with the State increase of 23.8 and the State total of $1,053,695,228 in 1946, highest in history. The county's average weekly wage in 1945 was $27.39 an amount which had moved to $25.79 in 1946, a deorease of 5.8 percent, as compared with the State's increase of 11.1 percent, or from $31.10 in 1945 to $34.64 in 1946. Brunswick county employers paid to the Employment Security Commission contributions on their payrolls at the rate of 2.04 per cent, as compared with the State wide rate of 1.45 percent, which is a reduction achieved under the experience rating provisions from the base rate of 2.7 percent of payrolls.
