Church Began Eas ter Observance At 3:20 O'Clock, Concluding With Cantata In Evening One of the most interesting ob servances of Easter, certainly the one heard by the greatest num-1 ber of people, was that put on by the Senior choir and friends of St. James A. M. E. Zion church I in Southport. . j The event had its beginning at J 3:20 o'clock Easter Sunday morn-| ing when the choir boarded a j bus equipped with a loud speak-[ jer, and with it the choir could be heard all over town as the bus stopped at practically every street intersection and the choir sang songs of the resurrection, i Singing until 4:20, the bus and choir arrived at the beautifully decorated church and there the strains from the electric organ added to the music. Setting off the decorations of the church was the florescent lighting, a gift from Harry Robinson, South port merchant. j During the hour before sunrise an inspiring sermon was preach ed by Rev. W. A. Turner, pastor of the church. The sunrise was greeted with more singing and the congregation then adjourned until 11 o'clock when the regular Easter service was held. Again at 8:15 o'clock Easter Sunday night services in the form of a cantata, "The Divine Redeemer," were rendered by the choir and was greatly enjoyed, many white friends of the church being among the congregation. The pastor and various officials of the church have requested the paper to express their apprecia tion of the interest shown in the event by the people, including the white folks.
