At such times both begin ners and old drivers whose names Begin with certain letters must| appear before the examiner, i TVice in the past three weeks the examiner has not shown up at! South port on his regular date. I Each of these tjmes approximate-) lyj 50 people have left their work ' aijd come al lthe way to town I wjiere they waited for the ex- ' ajhineer who did not show up. Ini fairness to the folks of Bruns wick. we think an examiner j should be at the courthouse on ! the days he is scheduled to be 1 there. From the, way Shallotte folks were pushing this thing when we were down there Saturday, It will be one of the biggest events of the year in! Brunswick. Bill Holmes of Shallotte told ' us Saturday he could easily tell ? a tobacco grower from a fisher man. The tobacco growers are allj wearing big smiles as a' result of getting 60 cents per pound for their tobacco. On the other hand , the fishermen have been more or' less glum-up until now ? as a re- : suit of the continued west winds' that prevented them from going! out and catching any fish. We . have an idea the fishermen will soon be smiling just as much as the tobacco growers. We were crossing on the slow moving and two-car ferry at Hoi- [ ien Beach Saturday. Since four or five people go with each car and there are always bunches of people crossing without cars, it is evident that a great many people use the ferry daily. This past week a fine write up' relative to a Shallotte boy was re- | ceived by The Pilot. It was ac- ' companied by a picture of the ' young man in question. The pic- 1 tyre, owing to its dimness, was impossible to reproduce in a news peper. The story itself was not adapted for use, as the writer did not sign his or her name. It is a general rule among newspapers that original matter cannot be published unless the name of the writer is known. It is a pretty long step from j Texas to Southport, but Lewis M. i Morris, State Fish and Game! Warden at Beaumont, wrote us this week to ask if menhaden and other commercial fishing "hurt the sport fishing here. It does not, so far as we can see, and the Texas warden has been advised that the menhaden and other commercial fishermen have Just as good rights as the sportsmen. Mr. Morris ask ed a lot of interesting questions relative to commercial and sport fishing at South port. At times while they could not fish because of the windy weath er a lot of the Long Beach resi dents have been getting a kick out of going crabbing in Davis Creek, a part of the Long Beach property. One day this week Mrs. Sam Grist, Jr., told us that Sam my and his daddy went crabbing that morning and got a whole lard stand full of nice crabs. Hie Grists and friends from Washing ton have been spending a month at the beach. Writing from Norfolk, where he is the special representative of ! the Seaboard Air Line Railway ! John V. Blalock said something! that pleased us but which should j be passed on to the boys who! did the work in the shop. Mr. j Blalock said: "I had the pleasure of seeing your very excellent to bacco edition of the 28th. It is indeed an outstanding piece of work. I don't need to remind you Don't DRIVE BY-DRIVE IN !
