Since none of these hospitals
have any source of income other
than that collected for patient
care, their ability to continue in
operation in face of ? mounting

In 1937 the hospitals were do
nating 29.3 per cent of the cost
of free hospitalization, but in
1947 they were donating only 3.6
per cent, indicating that state
and local government units have
assumed the major share of free
hospitalization.
