Mrs. Willette Is Hostess To Club; The Bolivia Home Demonstra tion Club held its September meet ing with Mrs. Harold WilletU. The club president called the meeting to order and the "Star Spangled Banner" was sung, and the collect of the Club Woftien of America was repeated. The new business brought be fore the club was the County Federation meeting to be held at Bolivia school on October 15. Mrs. Foster Mintz, Mrs. Alex Mercer, Mrs. Early Danford, Mrs. Harold Willetts and Mrs. W. A. Kopp were appointed a telephone com mittee. Miss Greene gave a demonstra tion on the selection of electrical equipment. Welcomed as visitors were Miss Ruth Patterson, county welfare j officer, who gave a talk on the welfare work of our county, and J Mrs. Rupert Morehead, a new | member. The hostess served delicious re freshments and the meeting ad journed with the next meeting to be with Mrs. W. A. Kopp in Oct ober. Winnabow Club " Meets With Mrs. Kye The Winnabow Home Demon stration Club met with Mrs. Ruth Kye on Thursday afternoon. The vice-president, Mrs. Gilbert Reid, called the meeting to order. "America The Beautiful" was sung, then the collect was repeat ed by the club. Miss Josie Reid called the roll and gave the financial report. Business pertaining to the club was next in order. Discussion a bout the health work in the coun ty was brought out and the poul try and garden leaders gave their reports. Miss Ruth Patterson, county welfare superintendent, spoke about her work. Miss Corinne Green in her de monstration spoke on electrical appliances that can be used in the home. Eight members were present, these being Mrs. Gilbert Reid, Miss Josie Reid, Mrs. Fannie Pot ter, Mrs. Hendrix Wolf, Mrs. E. W. Taylor, Miss Green, Miss K. M. Johnson, Mrs. Ruth Kye and two visitors Miss Betty Flo Reid ejid Miss Patterson. The hostess served delicious re freshments during the social hour. The club then adjourned to meet with Mrs. Fannie Potter In Oct ober. REETERS SCHOOL Kennith Kinsler left Monday to reenter the military school at Charleston. His mother Mrs. Jack Feltham, and grandmother, Mrs. J. W. Thompson, accompanied him to Charleston and are remain ing theer for a few days. Clinton Will Play On Opening Day At Carolinas Yam Festival: TABOR CITY, Sept. 27?Larry ; Clinton, who once turned out scores for Tommy and Jimmy Dorsey and Glen Gray's Casa Loma Orchestra, will headline the muscial attractions at the Caro linas Yam Festival in Tabor City on the opening day, Oct. 14. Larry C. Ashby, executive sec retary of the Tabor City Merch ants Association, said advance publicity credits Clinton with hav ing the "new look" in the musical 'world. Clinton's orchestra will play for the Yam Ball on Thursday night after Gubernatorial Nominee W. 'Kerr Scott and other dignitaries lift the lid on the three-day event. | The maestro started his own I band after scoring successes as 'an arranger and composer. He had [four years In the limelight before he joined the Army Air Force in 1941. Back in civilian life, Having ser ved six years with Uncle Sam, CSinton got to work on a novel dea which he claims is the "new look" in music. Ashby says that just what the "new look" consists of is a secret that will be reveal ed at the Carolina Yam Festival. LARRY CLINTON HONORED AT SHOWER Mrs. Richard A. Will Inaugurate Festivi ties This Coining Friday Final preparations were being made today for the expected visit of more than 10,000 farm resi dents of Columbus County on Far mers Day which will be held Fri day. The Whlteville Civitan Club and the Merchants Association, co-sponsors of the annual event, have lined up a full entertainment program starting at 11 a. m. and continuing until midnight. John M. Barkley, general chair man of the Farmers Day com mittee, announced that the parade would be staged at the morning hbur and that the program would continue without intermission ex cept for dinner and supper hours Arrangements have been made for the county's school children to have a half-holiday and join the festivities. A stage will be erected thii week on the Railroad Plata and this will be the scene of the enter tainment features which will be presented. i ? A band concert, under the dir ection of County Bandmaster Bob ; Hodges, will follow the parade. ' A Farmers' Court, miscellaneous I contests and music by Slim Mims 'knd his Dream Ranch Boys will I be sandwiched in between two per formances by Wallace, the Magici an. Wallace will appear first at 2 o'clock and return for another show at 5 o'clock. Something new for Farmers Day is on the calendar for 7 "p. m. Jim Crockett, noted promoter of professional wrest ring matches, will bring a quartet of his grunt and groan boys here to do their chores.
