Winnabow Man Dies Wednesday John Willetts Died At His Home Following Several j Years Of Failing Health; | Funeral Thursday John Willetts, 80 year old far mer of the Winnabow communi ty, died at his home Wednesday after several years of failing health. Funeral services were conduct ed Thursday afternoon at two o'clock from the Mill Creek Bap [ tist church. Rev. Carl Talley and Rev. C. E. Brisson were in charge of the services. Burial was in the Mill Creek church cemetery. | Active pallbearers were all grandsons of Mr. Willetts, Billy Willetts, Dan Willetts, Jr., How ard Sullivan, Johnny Sullivan, Barkley Sullivan and Wesley Caison, Jr. Mr. Willetts is survived by three daughters, Mrs. R. H. Sel lers, Mrs. W. B. Sullivan and Mrs. W. W. Caison of Winnabow; one son, Dan Willetts of Leland; [three sisters, Mrs. Amanda Arn old and Mrs. Maggie Simmons of Winnabow, and Mrs. Virginia Robbins of Lake Monroe, Fla: two brothers, B. C. Willetts of I Acme and D. S. Willetts of Win nabow. Navy Has Place For 2 Applicants Navy Recruiter Says That The Brunswick Quota For March Is Two High School Graduates Chief W. R. Smith, local re cruiter for the Navy, states he has two openings for high school graduates from Brunswick coun ty during the month of March. The openings are for Class A Service Schoools in the Navy. One is a school for airmen, the other is from a list of 14 schools that are available. To qualify the applicant must be a high school graduate with j no prior military service. He must have the necessary mental and physical requirements. The appli cants for either of these schools will be sent to Raleigh for enlist ment. From Raleigh they will go to San Diego, California, for re cruit training. Six Brunswick Boys At State Six Boys From This County Are Enrolled In School Of Engineering At Raleigh Institution This Term The winter term enrollment in the School of Engineering at N. j C. State College includes 6 stu- J dents from Brunswick county, a i survey of the institution's regis-1 tration figures indicated today. The following students from Brunswick county are enrolled in] the school: Claude M. Baldwin, Jr., Leland; Philip L. Dresser, Leland; Claude A. Ford, Jr., Southport; Raymond B. Gilbert, I Bolivia; John M. Hatcher, Leland; ; Jerry D. Lewis, Bolivia. Dean J. H. Lampe announced that the School of Engeneeriny; now has a total enrollment of 2,609 students, including 1,823 veterans of World War II. The Mechanical Engineering Department attracted the largest number of students with an en rollment of 743. The Electrical Engineering Department drew 565 students, and the Civil Engineer ing Department registered 470. Other departments in the College's School of Engineering show the following enrollment: Engineer ing General 301; Industrial, 202; Chemical, 182; Ceramic, 76; Geo logical, 26; and General, 18. There are also 86 graduate students. Leland Winner In Tournament Leland Lions And Wampes Girls Won Titles In All Star Event Which Came To Close Saturday Night At Bolivia Entering the Bolivia Invitation al Basket Ball Tournament after playing only one game.^the South port Independents made an un usual record last week by going to the finals. There they lost out to the Leland Lions, a team that has played steadily throughout the season and lost only one or two games. The Leland game saw brother playing against brother. Roland Clark of Southport is a brother of the Leland coach and his younger brother, Van Clark is one of the stars of the Leland high school team. The Southport team which lost to Leland 33 to 22 is composed of Clark, Skippv Stiller; Richard Brendle, Tommy Bowmer I and Bobby Spencer. The last three ! are members of the high school j 1 team and had played before this j season. The beginning of the tournament saw Clark and Stil- i ler playing their second game this season. i In the tournament the Wampee, ! S. C., girls carried off the honors.
