Ut Work Monday p0r Commissioners t?o days spent last week r.bers of the board of ttierc i ^ t).e pressure off of their mmissioners apparently regular meeting Monday, when only a few matters of routine importance were disposed of. The sum of $15.00 per month was added to the general relief load of the county; the John Jenrett lot in Southport was or dered conveyed to Harry Sell upon payment of $75.00; and M. L. Watts was given credits of $27.79 and $24.01 on payments for 1931-32 taxes. Hiah Times O I (By Cheer Leaders) We would like to thank the P. T. A. for the wonderful ban quet which was given Tuesday night at the community Build ing in honor of Coach H. T. j Sanders, our girls and boys bas-1 ket-ball teams and the cheerlead ers. The tables and the room were decorated in our school colors. | red and white, with our county championship trophy being the center piece. The program was as follows: Welcome, James M. Har per, Jr., toastmaster; response, Becky McRackan; The Records Speak, Gloria L. Hewett; Cheer to-team, all: presentation of let ters, toastmaster; toast to coach, captains; response, coach, H. T. Sanders; cheer to coach, all: mucial numbers, Mr. Stevenson; school song, all. We also appreciated the fact' that our toastmaster is like us in that he would rather, spend his time eating than talking, j ^People usually think of a banquet as being a long, drawn-out affair with nothing but speeches, but I this one was nothing like that. : The entertainment and program , kept everyone wide awake and' interested. After the banquet was over the teen-ages stayed to j dance for awhile. Thanks again I for a ?most wonderful time! Wednesday night in the Y. M. j C. A. at Wilmington our girls played' against Bolivia. The score ended 22 to 19 in Bolivia's favor. Sorry girls, you did your best, j Catherine McRackan was high ' scorer with Rebecca McRacken next. We want to congratulate the j Bolivia girls because they said j we surely had them scared while j the score was tied, and they were surprised to get the last 3 points. I Thursday afternoon our boys, played Shallotte in Wilmington j and won with the score of 35 to 26. Bowmer was high scorer with Bobby Spencer coming next. Al though we didn't get a chance to see them play, we had our fin gers crossed. Nice going boys. Thursday night our school band j also had practice. From all re ports the band did very well on! their first session together. They; are learning the "Activity March", j which is to be our new marching: song. In case you haven't heard' this march, ask Sue Williamson,! Danny Harrelson, Bill Cranmer, j Copie Burris, or any number of; our boys and girls in the band. < We also want to mention that j Mary Ann Loughlin has taken the bass drum. Seen around: Since this has; been a very busy week we'll j start with Tuesday and go down, j Tuesday night came the P. T. A.' banquet . . Here we saw Richard; ! Brendle enjoying peanuts, Latitia i Hiskman offering her neighbor ? lemon for his coffee, Gloria He j wett doing a wonderful job of [ making us blush. She was giving her record speech at the tirne . .! i On Wednesday as we all know our girls played the Bolivia girls in the Star-News tournament . . j Thursday the cheerleaders \?ere , sitting forlorn and awfully dis appointed while oar boys playedj i Bolivia. Our boys defeated the | Bolivia boys, but they had quite a struggle . . We might mention that Gloria Hewett stuck a nail in her foot and spent the week end in bed . . Saturday night those of us who weren't fortunate' j enough to see our boys defeat j Elizabethtown, giving our school the Star-News Championship,! went to the regular Saturday i night square dance . . You see, i | Folks, this has been a very busy j week for everybody. Well, we're ! tried of writing and you're tired of reading-so we'll see you next I time. j EXTENSIVE REPAIRS The Willis house on Davis street j in Southport is undergoing exten- j j sive repairs and will be converted] , into a two-apartment dwelling.
