A beautiful three-tiered wedding cake was the center of attractive decorations and delicious refreshments of punch, cake 'and mints were ser ved. The bride is the daughter of Mr. nd Mrs. B. L.^Monroe of Ft. Pierce, Fla., and has been mak ing her home for several months. The groom is son of the late I Hoyle Dosher and Mrs. Arnold, i He graduated from Southport | high school, and following ser-1 vice in the Navy during the war I attended the University of North | j Carolina, where he was a member i | of the varsity swimming team. He now is engaged in sport fish ing at Southport, where the cou ' pie will make their home. Miss Re'td Entertains Winnabow Club The Winnabow Home Demon stration Club met with Miss Josie Reid Thursday afternoon, July 21st. Mrs. Gilbert Reid, the president,' called the meeting to order. This, was followed by the usual open ing exercises. Miss Josie Reid had the roll call and gave the finan cial report. One of the plans for next month is for the club to have its recreation outing on August 20th at Long Beach. The members will have a picnic ?up per. Miss Corinne Green spoke on Food Preservation. The clothing leader spoke about the "Clothes Lines". Miss Green and five club mem bers were present these being Misses Josie and Bertha Reid, Mrs. Gilbert Reid, Mrs. Ruth Kye and Miss K. M. Johnson. Five guests also were present. Tliey were Mrs. Joseph Akerman, Miss Laura Akerman, Miss Ida Clark, from Augusta, Ga., Misses Betty Flo and Jean Reid. During the social hour the hos tess served delicious refreshments. The next regular meeting will be in September with Mrs. Ruth Kye. BEACH VISITORS Mr. and Mrs. J. Gray McAllis ter and children of Chapel Hill were week-end guests of Mrs. Henry Goodwin at the B. J. Hold en cottage at Long Be&ch. Weiner Roast Mr. and Mrs. Bill Grady of Holden Beach gave a weiner roast roast last week, honoring: Miss Louis Fulford on her 15th birth day. Butler. Mrs. George Y. Watson and Miss Marion Watson left Mon day for Berea, Ohio, where they will visit Mr. and Mrs. David Watson. Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Stanley of Chicago, HI. is spending sometime here with relatives. Mr. and Mra Charlie Pool and children has returned home after spending several months in Phil adelphia, Pa. Mr. and Mrs. W. R. McAuley and sons, Reid and Tommy, of Rocky Mount were week-end guests of Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Hiompson. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Potter of Key West, Fla., have been visiting his sister, Mrs. Louella Rourk, in Southport. News From Dosher Memorial Hospital Miss Betha Danford of Bolivia entered on Monday as a surgical patient. B. K. Smith of Shallotte was a medical patient from Monday until Wednesday. Clarence .Lancaster of Supply spent Tuesday until Sunday as a medical patient. Miss Francis Dian Carrier of Southport was a medical patient from Wednesday until Thursday. Mr. and Mrs. H. R. Thomas of Southport anounce thebirth of a son (jn Wednesday. J. E. Corprew of USCG, South' port, entered as a medical pat ient on Wednesday. Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Hewett of Ash announce of a daughter on Saturday. Mrs. Susie Anderson of South port spent Friday Friday until Saturday as a medical patient. A. L. George E. Minor of Southport entered on Sunday as & medical patient. Speeder Taken In Long Chase Two State Highway Patrol men Run Fast Driver To Elizabethtown Before Cor nering Him Patrolman c. M. Cummings of' Bolivia and J. C. Taylor of Le-1 land had one* of their hardest chases Thursday night when the two officers were cruising on j Route 76 at Leland and a 1949 ? Pontiac-8 passed them at high. speed. Cummings had a brand new j 1949 Ford patrol car. He opened it as wide as it would go and with j its siren screeming they chased, the Pontiac through Brunswick, j Columbus and Bladen counties to Elizabethtown, 44 miles away. Cummings says that his car never dropped below 85 miles per hour and for most of the distance it was holding steadily at 95. Informed by radio through Pat rolman Taylor, officers at Eliza bethtown threw up a road block at that place. The Pontiac turned off the highway two blocks before reaching the road block, but Cum mings and Taylor, who were hold ing doggedly to the chase, over hauled the car within a block of th? Elizabthtown jail. They arrested Thomas Everette Stancil, Jr., 24 year old white Lake man. He was held for trial in Elizabethtown Thursday of this week under a ?400,00 bond. Bond for his appearance in Brunswick county was likewise placed at $400.00 and he is scheduled to be tried here Monday, August 1. No one was with Stancil in the car. He is said to have switched off the lights of his car several times during the wild ride. Colored Child Is Killed By Auto Llllie B. Hill, four year old daughter of Lucille Hill, colored, of Shallotte township, was fatally injured when struck by a car driven by J. Worth Stanley on the Ash-Hlckmans Crossroads Tuesday afternoon. Accounts are that the child ran in the road fn front of the car and was Struck by the mac hine before it could be stopped. Mr. Stanley put her in his car and started to rush her to the hospital, but discovered that she was already dead. It is understood that the mat ter has been termed an unavoid able accident.
