Genevieve Eakes was Home a gent at that time. The following officers were el-1 ected: Mrs. Johnnie Powell, pres- j ident; Mrs. Aliene Gore, vice president; Mrs. W. B. Ward, sec retary and treasurer; Mrs. Ethel Duncan, vice secretary. In 1945 the only change in officers was to elect Mrs. J. C. j Ward, Jr., as secretary and she has served continuously up until now. The present officers are Mrs. Aliene Gore, president, and Mrs. Johnnie Powell, vice president. Since the organization of the Bethel Club members have coll ected clohting for the Russian Relief and contributed to child relief. They have taken part in the Polio, Red Cross, and Can cer Drives. Preparing baskets at Christ mas for the aged in the Bethel community and giving clothes to needy children have been major projects of the group. Members have taken part in every Home Demonstration Ach ievement Night and a booth has been arranged for every Far mer's and Merchant's Exposition. | Packages have been sent to a i boy who is in a sanitorium for ( treatment and flowers are given; to the sick and bereaved in the section. In conjunction with the Claren- j don Club, a steel slide was bou- j ght for the small children of the Williams Township School. Major projects at present are the furnishing of a bedroom in j the Methodist parsonage which I was recently built. Quilts have al-1 ready been made in addition to the money which has been raised. I The club women are rooting shni- j bery for the beautification of the j grounds around the church and I parsonage. "The progress of our club has' been slow but much more inter-1 est has-been shown recently un- ? der the cap able leadership of | Miss Nan Ratliff and Miss Gayle Wells. Inman, president; Mrs. Da vid McKeithan, vice president; Mrs. Clarence Thompson, secre tary and treasurer. Present officers are: Mrs. S; L. Braxton, president; Mrs. John Boone, vice president; Mrs. J. R. Griffin, secretary and treasurer. The club has at present 14 ac tive members and meets once each month. The club won the gavel for at tendance at the 1946 Achieve ment Day and booths were pre pared for both the 1947 and 1948 Farmer's and Merchant's Expos ition. Entries from the South White viUe club were shown at the Ta bor &ty Yam Festival in 1948. * A reading certificate was a warded to Mrs. J. G. Inman and she was also given recognition for five years' perfect attendance at club meetings. The group has been well re presented at federation meetings, district meetings, and several state meetings since its organiz ation. Members have also attend ed special county-wide demonst rations. i Contributions have been made to the Polio Drive, Red Cross Drive, Salvation Army, March of Dimes, Cancer Drive, Chinese Re lief and to the Business and Pro fessional Woman's Club iron lung campaign.
