The bridegroom was attended by his brother, Glenn Jones, as best man. Ushers were Bobby Jones and Kenneth Stiller. Mrs. Reese, mother of the bride, wore a street length gown of slate blue matelesse crepe with black accessories and a corsage of red rosebuds. Mrs. Jones, mother of the groom, wore a street length dress of dove gray crepe with black accessories. Her corsage was of pink rosebuds. Following the ceremony, a re ception was given by the bride's parents in the recreation rooms of the church. Mrs. Ormand Leggett presided at the punch bowl and Mrs. E. B. Tyler served, while Miss Gloria Lee Hewett presided at the guest book. Immediately following the re ception the couple left for a wed ding trip. The bride, wore for traveling a coca faille-crepe dress with dark brown accessories. She wore a corsage of red rosebuds. Upon their return the couple will reside in Durham. The bride is a graduate of James Walker Memorial School of Nursing, the groom is a student at Duke University. The bride has been entertained by Miss Dolores Hewett, Mrs. Ormand Leggett and Mrs. E. B. Tyler. Many out of town guests were present for the wedding. PERSONALS Mr. and Mrs. Richard St. George of Penns Grove, N. J., are here for a three weeks vacation with relatives. , Mrs. Frank M. Niernsee and Mrs. E. H. Elliott was among the Southport people attending the celebration in Duplin county last week. Disabled Vet Movie Coming Amuzu Theatre Will Show "How Much Do We Owe" j Starring James Stewart j Southport residents will soon | see at the Amuzu theater a 10 I minute educational movie short J dramatizing the story of the Dis I abled American Veterans. The film, titled "How Much Do j You Owe 7" stars James Stewart, j famous motion picture actor, and I General Jonathan M. Wainwright, hero of Bataan and Corregidor. | With Jimmy Stewart contribut | ing his services and the entire motion picture industry cooperat ing to make the film and its dis tribution possible, movie goers will see a dramatic, alive and realistic presentation of the rehabilitation of the disabled veteran. The recent 28th national con vention of the Disabled American Veterans in Cleveland unanimous ly adopted a resolution commend ing the motion picture industry for its contribution and a special citation was awarded Stewart. The story was written by Col. Owen Crump, well known Holly wood writer and producer and was directed by Ralph Staub, able Col umbia Pictures director. Step by step, , through the 1 thread of the plot of the short, |is the courageous story of the problem facing the disabled vet t eran. A realistic presentation is made of the problems that every community faces and the manner in which the DAV serves. The first thirty-four high school stu dents who turn in their money will be carried and brought back for the cost of only $4.50. We expect to have a bus load, so dig deep. WORLD COMMUNION SERVICE The Southport Presbyterian church recognizing next Sunday as World Communion Day, will hold appropriate services in the evening. As a part of the day ( the Christian churches of the , world are scheduled to celebrate the sacrament of the Lords Sup per. The subject by Dr. Waggette will be, "World Conditions Today." When he was in Europe Dr. Waggette talked with men con nected with the Russian program. He will talk upon Russia's in i fluence, and other phases. The 1 evening services will be at 7 :30 o'clock. WITH "OPERATION' MIKI" Mansel Bennett of Shallotte, a boatswain's mate, third class, is a crew member with the attack transport USS Okanogan, which is now participating in the fall j operations in the Pacific. The j maneuvers, which started in late ; September, will last through Oct ' ober and November. Nearly 40,000 soldiers, sailors and marines : are participating. General Mark W. Clark, commanding general of the sixth army, is overall commander. VISITED RELATIVES Chief and Mrs. J. C. Chadwick and baby of Jacksonville, Florida, have returned to their home after spending a week at Shallotte with Mrs. Chadwick's parents, Rev. and Mrs. H. B. Bennett, and the parents of Mr. Chadwick, Mr. and Mrs. John Chadwick, at Shallotte Village Point.
