^ OvrW*t //e Hello, there! Today is March 11 and according to history (here was a great blizzard in 1888 at Baltimore and New York. My, my, we are thankful the days are . warmer here and the sunshine is shining brightly outside. Birth records reveal that babies bom that day were given names ^ such as Snowdrop, Storm, Tempest, Gale and Blizzard! Now what are they? Softer names as Sherry, Shelly, April, etc.! Natchez Indians, who lived in Mississippi, worshiped the sun as their great god. They called their chief “Brother of the Sun” and built great mounds from which the chief could converse with the sun. A Jesuit priest observed in 1699: “Every morning the great chief honors by his presence the rising of his elder brother, and salutes him with many howlings as soon as he appears.. .Afterwards, raising his hand above his head and turning from the east to the west, he shows him the direction which he must take in his course.” Yesterday we had the privilege of meeting Maty Winfield, a Democratic National Committee woman for North Carolina. We had met Mary before when she was the North Carolina State Extension Homemaker’s president and we are always delimited to hear her speak. She is great! She gave us some pointers on organization of the Democrat Ladies and all of us came away enthusiastic to work harder than ever. And for thought: Have you thought about the women working out in the fields with the men? That is the same job with the same qualifications, yet the women receive from one-third to one-half as much money as the men when they do just as much work, if not more. The men here in Brunswick are guilty of this. They want the women to do ALL the work for them to get ALL the praise and money. Think about it ladies! If all women would have voted for Mrs. Harper, die would have been our lieutenant governor now. “Let’s work together for the best qualified candidates always,” concluded Mrs. Winfield. See you next week! Students To Present Play The classic flavor of ancient Greek drama will be spiced'with the sound of the times when the Brunswick County-Southport High School Drama Club presents '‘Oedipus The King”, Thursday, March 19th. The chants will be sung by a chorus of five voices, backed by a contemporary musical combo consisting of Mark Switzer, Steve Dosher and Richard Hewett. Member, of the chorus are Harriet Frink, Andrea Davis, Regina White, Julia Swain and Felicia McAdams. The role of Oedipus Rex will be played by Charles Clevenger.
