MR. AND MRS. GREGG ROBERT CARLSON Carlson-Dosher vows spoken Linda Elois Dosher and Gregg Robert Carlson were united in marriage on May 16 at Trinity United Methodist Church in Southport. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. P. D. Midgett. Music was pro vided by Cathy Furpless and Cindy Sellers. Julienne D. Mack, sister of the groom, served as matron of honor. Scott B. Carlson, brother of the groom, served as best man. Ushers were Thomas H. Dosher, Jr., and Mike L. Dosher, brothers of the bride. A rehearsal dinner was hosted by Bill and Meg Nieol at Duffers Restaurant at Oak Island Golf and Country Club. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas H. Dosher, Sr., of Southport. The groom is the son of Mrs. Meg N'icol of Long Beach and Dale Carlson of Femdalc, Mich. The couple will reside in Michigan. ‘Lie’ is Presbyterian topic "Confronting the Lie", the second in a series of sermons on "How Do We Help a Sick World Get Well?", is the sermon topic to be delivered by Dr. W. Murray Page Sunday, on June 21, at Southport Presbyterian Church during the 11 a.m. worship hour. The sermon will have as its text Jeremiah 6:13-15 and will address the following concerns: How does one distinguish true peace from false peace, real peace from imagined peace, genuine vision from deluded vision? How docs the "lie" impact the well-being of our society? How does die "lie" stand in the way of our relationship with God? With others? With self? What does the "lie" tell us about our need for God? Sermon on ‘Lifetime wasted’ "A Lifetime Wasted" (Mark 8:34-37) will be pastor Wayne Trexler’s message at Southport Baptist Church this Sunday during the 11 a.m. wor ship service. Choral music will be "Rejoice My Heart". Nancy Hall and Eudell Smith will share a flute-handbell offertory. Associate pastor Jeff Johnson will speak on "The Parable of the Mustard Seed" during the 7 p.m. evening vespers. Flutist Nancy Hall will share the musical meditation. ‘Genesis Solution’ presented Cape Fear Alliance Church will present the film "The Genesis Solution" on Sunday, June 21, at 6 p.m. during the evening service. "The Genesis Solution", featuring Australian-born Dr. Ken Ham, is said to be "an often humorous and always down-to-earth film which cuts to the heart of important issues affecting our society today. "Dr. Ham reveals the startling common link which gave rise to problems such as immorality, rejection of authority, unbelief, abortion, homosexuality and other social ills.... Dr. Ham offers the solution to these problems in practical, enjoyable and relevant ways,” a release stated. Sermon on ‘Identity of Jesus’ Pastor Charles McManus of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church will use the sermon topic "The Identity of Jesus" at the 10 a.m. service on Sunday. McManus, using the lcctionary series of the healing of the centurion’s servant by Jesus, will state, "Once we recognize the identity of Jesus and allow his presence and power to invade and permeate our lives, life will never be the same. Sunday services during June, July and August will begin at 10 a.m. Catholics, Lutherans to meet Members of Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church and St. Peter Lutheran Church will attend the Lutheran/Roman Catholic covenant anniversary ob servance Saturday at St. Peter Roman Catholic Church in Greenville. The Rev. Dr. Mark Mencesc, bishop of the N. C. Synod of the Evangeli cal Lutheran Church in America, will discuss the meaning of the covenant with a presentation, "Lutheranism: Protestant and Catholic". Father Philip Leach, pastor of Good Shepherd Roman Catholic Church, will speak on "Modern Ecumenism and Roman Catholicism". Sermon looks at God, fathers The topic for the 10:15 a.m. Sunday, June 21, sermon at Oak Island Pres byterian Church will be "God honors all fathers by asking us to call Him Father". Text for the sermon will be taken from Luke 11:1-13. The Rev. Richard DcPritcr said, "Jesus is the one who teaches us to pray to God as our Father in heaven. God in His being, as part of His image, has many of what we call feminine qualities, but no where are we asked or commanded to call God, mother. In God’s plan for the human family, He wants the father to be the head of the house. Fathers are to love their wives and children as Jesus loves his church."
