SERMON TOPICS Oak Island Presbyterian w,'h‘t!e sermon ‘'tied The Real Meaning of Palm Sunday.” really haPPened on that first Palm Sunday was not simply a parade, but "fiferS just ,marching into zion’but riding J ” Worship services are held at 8:15 and 10:15 a.m. with Sunday school at 9:15 a.m. St. Philip’s Episcopal Holy Week at St. Philip’s Episcopal Church, Southport, will observe the days of Christ s passion beginning with Palm Sunday, March 23, when all services feature the Liturgy of Palms and a dramatic reading of the passion story. On Maundy Thursday, March 27, Holy Eucharist will be celebrated at noon and 5:30 p.m. with music and child care at the 5:30 service. On Good Friday, March 28, worship will be held at 7 a.m., noon and 5:30 p.m. with music and child care at 5:30. Preaching at all services will center on the journey of Jesus Christ from his«ri umphal entry into Jerusalem to his death on the cross. Ocean View Methodist The Rev. Fred Roberts, pastor of Ocean View United Methodist Church, will deliver the message for Passion/Palm Sunday, March 23. We trace the path of Jesus in the events of the last week of His earthly life, begin ning today with His entry into Jerusalem as found in Mark 1:1-11,” stated Roberts. Worship services are held at 8:30, 9:45 and 11 a.m., with Sunday school at 9:45 a.m. Nursery care is provided for the 9:45 and 11 a.m. services. Services will be held March 27 to Celebrate Holy Thursday. “Relive with us our Lord s last supper with a service of foot-washing and holy communion,” a church notice read. The service is scheduled for 7 p.m. Oak Island First Baptist “Hosanna” will be the topic of Rev. Ross Moyer’s sermon at First Baptist Church ot Oak Island on Sunday, March 23, at the 11 a.m. worship service. Sunday school begins at 9:45 a.m. “I’ve Been Redeemed” will be presented by the Children’s Choir on Sunday at the 7 p.m. worship service. The choir is directed by Sharon Tuck. St. Peter Lutheran The St. Peter Lutheran Church Lenten schedule is as follows: Wednesday, March 19-6 p.m., supper; 7 p.m., worship service with dramatic presentation of “When We Had No Hope," an encounter between Mary and Martha. Sunday, March 23 - the 11 a.m. worship service will begin with the Palm Sunday procession. The sermon will be a dramatic reading of “The Passion of Our Lord According to Mark.” New members will be received at this service. Thursday, March 27 — 7 p.m., Maundy Thursday Holy Communion worship ser vice. Friday, March 28 — 7 p.m.. Good Friday Tenabrae service. Sunday, March 30 — The Resurrection of Our Lord celebration at 11 a.m. Southport Presbyterian Services at Southport Presbyterian Church will be conducted at 11 a.m. Sunday, March 23, by the Rev. Jerry McCann. Scripture will be from Luke 19:28-40 and the sermon topic will be “King for a Day.” Sunday school begins at 10 a.m. The church is located at the comer of Moore Street and Stuart Avenue. ‘The Eternal Christ’ at Southport Baptist The music and drama ministries of Southport Baptist Church will share the musical "The Eternal Christ" on Sunday and Monday, March 23-24. Both services begin at 7 p.m. and will be held in the church sanctuary. "The Eternal Christ" portrays: The Creation, Christ's Birth, Ministry, Lord's Supper, Crucifixion, Resur rection and Promise of Heaven through choral selections, narra tions, solos, drama, symbolism and slides. The work concludes with an arrangement of “Christ the Lord Is Risen Today” combined with three famous "Hallelujahs:" Beethoven's “Hallelujah Chorus" (from the "Mount of Olive's"), Handel's “Hallelujah, Amen” (from "Judas Maccabaeus") and Handel's “Hallelujah Chorus” (from the “Messiah"). The musical is directed by Eddie Hicks, minister of music and youth, and the drama directed by Jeff Johnson, associate pastor. Vocal soloists are Pam Hicks, Alfred Willetts, Cheryl Shew, Tommy Brendle and Juli Newton. An instru mental interlude will be presented by Tom Allen on the trumpet. Drama sketches include Kathy Holbrook as Mary and Jimmy Lamb as Satan. Evelyn Brooks is organist and Pam Hicks is pianist. Church to host Easter egg hunt An Easter egg hunt for children of the community will be held at First Baptist Church of Boiling Spring Lakes on Saturday, March 22, between the hours of 2 and 3 pm.
