SOMNAMBULISTIC IN SNOW.
Norman Splvev Takes Frosty Promenade
and May Lose His Feet.
Norman Spivey, a sou of Mr. A.
D. 'pirey, of Ellerbe Springs, left
Richmond county about two years
ago to reside in Chicago, Illinois.
He is a mechanic.
The Chicago Chronicle Bays:
."For two hours und a half Norman Spivey,
C331 Vinoennes avenue, walked the streets
I ISoglewood while in a somnambulistic
state Sno r fell and the wind blew, but
though he was barefoot and dressed only in
hi night clothes, the storm did not awaken
kim. Finally, when both his feet had bees
frocen, he sank in the snow. He was dis
covered early in the day by Policeman John
Ifda n, und taken to M. Bernard's hospit
al. "When he first saw him, Watson thought
Spivey, who is 20 years old, was a ghost.
The sleepwalker set a rapid pace and Wat
son could not catch him until he fell. The
officer was surprised when he found the
yovth fast asleep though suffering.
"Young Spivey evidently got up in the
middle of the night and made his way to the
treet, hinking he was going for a walk
He loft home by the front doof, and the
sound of closing it did not wake him, neither
did contact with the snow on his bare feet.
The youth was chilled to the bone when
foand by the policeman. At St. Bernard's
hospital it is said it may lie necessary to
amputate his feet."

OLD SALISBURY LANDMARKS
GOING.
Homestead That Has Seen More Than
Ceuturv to Held to Business Block
The landmarks of Salisbury are
being torn down and two of the old
est will soon be nothing but naked
lot? npon which something greater
and finer will be erected. On the
comer of Main and Bank, the old
Davis homestead, recently sold
twice, Jrst by O. D. Davis to B. B.
McCanless and then by Mr. McCan
less to W. S. Blackmer and M. S.
Brown, is being torn down and will
be disposed of soon. The old Davis
home has a history. It was here be
fore the beginning of the nineteenth
century, aud is contemporary witn
the old Mansion House from whici
George Washington was an occasion
al incomer and outgoer. It was hen
that General Green was giveu th
money bv Elizabeth Maxwell Steele.
The Mansion House went a . few
weeks ago. In its palmy days it
was the most fashionable tav ern of
Western North Carolina.
The site of the antique mate of
the Mansion will most likely be
made a busings block, though there
are many rtsideuces about it and it
is splendidly located for this pur

There is real pleasure in chewing
the best tobacco grown where the

Only choice selections of this
well-matured and thoroughly cured
tobacco is used in making
SCHNAPPS. That's why SCHNAPPS
and others of the Reynold's brands,
as shown by the Internal Revenue
statistics for a fiscal year, made the
wonderful growth of six and one
quarter million pounds, or a net
gain of one-third of the entire
increased consumption of chewing
and smoking tobaccos in the United
States.
Evidently, chewers cannot resist
the flavor and they cheer SCHNAPPS
because SCHNAPPS cheers them
more than any ether chewing to
bacco, and every man that chews
SCHNAPPS passes the good thing

About and
Chewing
chewers and pounds of tobacco
chewed, to the population, in those
States where SCHNAPPS tobacco
was first sold than there are in the
States where SCHNAPPS has not
yet been offered to the trade.
SCHNAPPS is like a cup of fine
Java coffee, sweetened just enough
to bring out its natural, stimulating
qualities. SCHNAPPS pleases all
classes of chewers: the rich, be
cause they do not find a chew that
really pleases them better at any
price ; the poor, because it is more
economical than the large 10c. or
15c. plugs and they get their mon
ey's worth of the real snappjr, stim
ulating flavor so appreciated by to
bacco ievsrs. All imitations con
tain much more sweetening than
SCHNAPPS. They arc made that
way to hidj poor tobacco improp
erly cured.
For the man who chews tobacco
for tobacco 's sake, there is no chew
like CCHNAPPS.
