Mr. and Mrs. Wni. Perry, of Ala mance county, spent Sunday with relatives in Asheboro. Mrs. Herman Johnston, of Cum nock, is spending some time with her father, N. M. Lowe. Will Wrenn, of Cedar Falls, spent Sunday here with his wife who is ill -at the home of M. C. Spoon. ihe Randolph Book Club will meet with Mis. E. Moflitt tomorrow afternoon at 4 o'clock. Miss Ethel Dauiel, of Level Cross, visited Misses May and Myrtle Ridge last week. J. W. Stratford, of Concord, is vieiliug his sister Mrs. P. A. Meu denhall, Prof. W. A. Eosley will sUrt a singing school at Prospect School next ween. Mrs G. Blackburn of Greensboro Is visiting her father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. A. Auman. Mies Fannie Gray, teacher xin the Asheboio Graded school went to her home in Glenola, Saturday. W. S. Skeen left Monday for Richmond to buy horses. He will return Friday. Mrs. Annie Tomlinson-Hauser, of High Point, attended the Graded School Commencement here last week. Dickens has purchased the lot on the corner of Church and Hoover streets and will erect two nice houses for rent in the near future Mrs. John Brown daughter of Nathan Allen died Saturday at her home at Kemps Mills, after an ill ness of several months. Barker, carrier on R. F. D. Route 2 fiom that place. He expects to return to his route in a few days. Sheriff Hay worth arrested Jno. Floyd and Lum Balfour Saturday for gambling. They were arrested in the colored barber shop run by Floyd who is a South Carolina negro. They were playing set back, with the money up when the officer raided them. The defendants were hound over to court in bonds of $50 each. Death of Mrs Hammer. On April,22, 1907, sister Sarah N. Hammer, the beloved wife of Rev M. E. Hammer, depaitnd this life. She was a devoted member of the Christian Church at'Pleasant Grove, Sorrow hangs heavy upon this home, A sad hearted husband and eight living children, three sisters and one brother and a host of friends survive to moum their loss. May God, who is a father to the fatnerless, del ten derly and manifest his love and care in a very speciul manner to those left in the home. A large crowd attended the funer al services and loving hauds placed beautiful flowers on the grave. The interment was at Pleasant Grove cemetery; burial sen ices were con ducted by the Rev. L. E. Brady. Mr. M. L. Webb, who runs a hotel at Cooleemee, was married April 26th to Miss Mary Lyerly, the eldest daughter of the late Issac Lyerly who with his wife little son aud daughter, were murdered at their o me near Barber in August. BOARD OF EDUCATION. Met In Regular Mouthly Srailon In Of fice of Count)' Superintendent Mon day. The County Board of Education met in the office of Supt. Way Mon day morning. The board ordered the superin tendent to sell the old Walnut Ridge school and site in Cedar Grove town ship which has closed for five years or more; also to sell the old Hope well school ana site in Trinity town ship. Rev. B. F. Hargett, of Trinity appeared oefore the board for the citizens of Trinity and made ap plication for one of the High Schools to which Randolph is entitled under the recent ruling of legislature. It wis decide to grant the request provided the patrons of the school meet the requirements of the provi sion. L. 0. Sugg, C. M. Tysor and others from Erect were here Monday on the same mission but postponed the application. - Supt Way was ordered to visit District-3 in Grant township for the purpose o recommending a site for tbe iew school to take the place of the one burned last fall. Lutner who has been visiing hei brother at Greensboro for a few days returned heme Satur day. Misses Lee Shields, Ora Cox and Louanna Ellison made a shopping trip to Randleman Thursday. Rev. James Jordan who has been visting relatives and friends in Moore aud adjoining counties re turned home last week. He spent some time at Whitney and talks very interestingly about the great power that is being developed there. Mr. and Mis. R' L. Elkins attended the commencement at Asheboro last week. Mr. II. F. Ryder was in our city one day last week. Mr. Ryder is couuected with a large lumber syn dicate in Moore Co. Large Owl. Mr. L. C Smith from Tabernacle township was in town Saturday and tells of his hunting with Mr. Gnruey Hoover on Friday of last week when Mr. Hoover, killed an ovl meas ured four feet and four inches from tip of one wing to the tip of the other wing.
