The Asheboro Courier- Asheboro, N. C. June 6, 1907. Local and Personal. A. E. Burus left Monday fr Hot Springs, Aik., to spend ome time. He will be accompanied by B. B, Burns, of High Point. 11. B. Ketiney, who liveg five miles east of Asheboro, painfully cut his foot one day last week, while cutting crossties. The axe with which he was hewing the logs cut through his shoe leaving a deep gash about four inches long on the top of his foot. McTyere Richardson, who grad uated at Trinity Park last week, has returned home. Tom Betts, who holds a position at Uandlemau with the Central North Carolinian, spent Sunday at home with his parents. ;Mrs. W. E. Swain who has been in Greensboro at St. Leo's Hospital returned to her home Thursday. Mis3 Niua Dayvault, of Concord, who his been visiting the Misses Moring went home Saturday. Mii3 Linnie and Mr Charlie Sham burger who were students of Guilford College, came home Satur day. Gov. Glean who was expected to deliver an address to the Masons al Ramseur July 4th writes that he cannoi be present. Hon. W. V. Kitchen will be one of the speakers. ' Little Margaret, infant cf Mr. And Mrs. J. H. Cole, of Handlemau, died Wednesday morning and was juried Thurbday. Robert Uobbius, son of llr. and Mrs. II. C. Robbius, of Siler City uind grandson of Mr. and Mrs. J. N. Robbing, of llaudleman. died last week. W. D. Stedman is moving his storehouse off its present site- pre paratory to the erection of a bi ick building. Material for the new bank build ing and hardware store is being placed on the grounds' near the depot. '.The charter for the First National Bank of Asheboro, has been received . The stockholders will not organize until the building is nearing com jpletion. Roy Webster, sou of Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Webster, is rapidly recovering from an attack of pneu monia. Master Roy has been seri ously ill for several weeks. Co). A. C. McAlister and daugh ter Miss May, returned from the Confederate Reunion at Richmond Saturday. J. C. Hammer, of Oklahoma, is visiting relatives in the county. Mies'JeBsie Boroughs, who has been confined to her room with measles for the past three weeks is rapidly improving. Mrs. W. E. Swain has returned from St. Leo's Hospital, at Greens boro, verry much improved. Mrs. J. M. Lassiter, who is at the Stamey Sanitorium at Greensboro, is rapidly improving. Mrs. A. M. Rankin israpidly recovering from her critical illness ofsevfral days. Rev. K. C. Horner, of Troy, spent Monday night in ABheboro. Jno L. Currie, of Carthage, was l n Asheboro on business Monday. Miss Nina Davault, of Concord, was a guest of the Misses Moring last week. Mr. and Mrs. D. L. Culberson, of Troy, were in Asheboro Monday nroute to Franklinyille to visit friends.- Brantley Lambert, of Thomas ville, passed through Asheboro Tuesday morning with another drove of cattle. This time his herd consisted of twenty head of cattle, twenty-six sheep and Beven pigs. Mrs. E. E. Kephart left Tuesday morniDg for Pennsylvania to spend several weeks with relatives and friends. W. G. Brokaw is spending the month at iairview Lodge. Mr, Brokaw returned from abroad two weeks ago on account of the death of his-father. W. V. Brokaw, one of New York s millionaire clothiers II. B. Slack is moving into th Betta residence on Salisbury St. The drought from which this section has suffered for the past month was broken by the steady down-pour of rain triuay, and bat urday. Rain was badly nee Jed and the farmers can now proceed with their work. Jno Sexton who attended the A.& M. College at Raleigh last year, is visiting his sister, Mrs J. M. Way. Miss Eddith Hendricks has re turned from Guilford College. Prof. D. M. Weatherly.of Frank ville, spent Monday in Asheboro. Miss Annie Moring has returned from the State Normal at Greens boro, where she was in school duriug the past winter. Miss Alice Tull, of Kinston, is visiting the Misses Moring. The Methodist Episcopal Sunday School enjoyed the annual outing at Cedar Falls last Thursday. The membership was Jewell represented. The dinner was spread in the grove at the new M. E. Church, which with fishing, swinging, and other amusements furnished tine recreation for both young and old. Mrs. J. II. Stowe and Miss Carrie went to High Point Saturday. Dallis Moffitt and wife are visit ing his father, Houston Moflitt. Virgie Dickens, is speeding the week at Sawjer Mine, visiting her cuiiiu, Ge.rldiue Prim. J Di T. C. G Dorsett, of Trinity township, were in Asheboro Monday. Mr. D. M. Welborn. of Trinitv. was here Monday with Capt. Ken nedy. Mr. and Mrs. E. Moffitt are at tending Elon College Commence ment. J. W. Bulla, of Cape Henry, Va., spent a part of last week in Ashe. boro. At the recent meeting of the Ran dolph Book Club the officers for the past year were re-elected. Meetings were suspended for the summer months. J. D. Moffitt from Stillwater, Okla., is spending a few days with his parents, Mr and Mrs Huston Moffiitt. He will leave Monday for Jamestown, from where he will re turn home. B. B. Moffitt, of Tampa, Fla., arrived Thursday to visit relatives. The Methodist Protestant Sunday School has postponed its annual outing on account of the damp weather. Henry M. Robins, is attending the Chapel Hill commencement. Mr. Bascom Moffitt, of Tampa, Fla., is visiting his father Mr. Huston Moflitt. Miss Ina Clement is visiting her sister, Mr. J. T. Penn. Mrs. H. L. Brower, of Atlanta, Ga., was called here last week on account of the illness of her mother Mrs. Bulla. Col. W. P. Wood returned from Richmond Monday. Mr. Boc Hurly and brother, of Troy, sons of Mr. Will Hnrly, were in Asheboro yesterday returning from Durham where they have been attending Trinity Preparatory School at. Durham. Mr. Boc Hurly won the speakers medal this year Mrs. Capt. Parkin, of Trinity, left Monday for Hot Spiings, Ark., going with Mr. J. P. Kedding's family. The party will be absent about a month. J. G. Dorsett, of Trinity, recent ly sold a pair of twm calves a year old for $40. Win. Graves, of Richland town ship, was in town Tuesday. Wednesday of last week the city of Richmond was profusely decor ated in honor of the Annual Re union of the Confederate Veterans. The attendance was the laigest ever, and the city honored itself by taking care that every one enjoyed the season. The Randolph delegation has re turned declaring its delight that the Randolph camp was organized in this reunion of the soldiers of the once powerful army whose ranks ar now rapidly thinning. North Carolina had the largest deleitio'i of any ot the States and win honored with first place in the proci s-iion. The High Point Machine Works is moving its plant to Greensboro. Chief Justice Clark flatly denies the rumor that he is a camdate for governor. Miss Bertie Vickers, of Winston Salem, will begin her stage career with the DeWolf Hopper Opera Co. the latter part of the Summer. The N. C. Press Association will meet at Morehead City July 17th. High Point citizens will vote July 16th on special tax for the Carnegie Library. At the annual meeting of the stockholders of the Seaboard Com pany, which was organized some time ago to assist the Seaboard Rail way Company, held Tuesday, a reso lution wis introdtced asking for the dissolution of the concern. The author pronounces the directors a bunch of dummies. It is now certain, says a Norfolk dispatch, that the 15th of June will see the final touches to the Jamestown Exposition. City Building Inspector Webb, of Salisbury, statea that during May permits were issued for building's the aggregate cost of which in round numbeis is $120,000. J. C. Kyle, aged 60 years, and Mrs. Eliza K. 1'regden, aged 61 vears, were married at Greeusboro Friday afternoon. Last Wednesday a pet collie, dis covering that the house of its master at Oxford, Pa., was afire, widely rang the door bell aroueing the family, saving them from a horrible death. Oki. Peters, a white man, has been arrested near Mt. Airy, charged with assassinating Rev. jos. Easter, of Carroll county, Va., The assassina tion is supposed to be the work of blockade whiskey dealers. He is in Carroll county jail. Spool thread has advanced one cent on the spool. The spool thread trust is composed of J & P Coats, O. N. Clark and others, and all have rtvon notice of the advance.
