High Point Hoj I" TriniMe At Lexing ton Held I tutor Hondo! !)(. Report conies from Lesingtoij that Call Maynard, a young whit man of High Point, heretofore sus taining a good character, was charged with criminal assault on Molly Everheart, aged 25 years, at Lexing ton on Thursday night of last week, The alleged assault took place on the grounds where the St. Louis Amusement Co. was holding a car nival. Maynard had gone to Lexington to attend the carnival, and while on the grounds met the Everheardt woman. After being in her company for a while, it is alleged that he enticed her to a secluded portion of the grounds and there assaulted ber. Conflicting stories come from Lex ington as to the character of the woman. While it is admitted that Bhe comes of a respectable . family, it is said that her character is not good. Maynard was given a preliminary hearing Friday and the evidence was considered sufficient to justify his detention for criminal assault without bail. Later the committing justice of the peace decided to permit nim to give $1000 bond, which he so far has failed to do. This indicates that the justice does not believe the State's evidence in its entirety. LEE COUNTY QUESTION. To Be Settled By A Ballot Of Citizens The First Tuesday Id July.
