Moffitt'went to James, town Friday. C. T. Loflin went to Norfolk on business Friday. H.'IM. Robins attended court at Troy last week. Miss Hodgin, of Guilford county, is a guest of Miss Fannie Birkhead. Jno. Steed left Friday f )r the Jamestown Exposition. Mrs. E. Moffitt and baby have gone to eastern Virginia to visit rela tives. Mrs. II. E. Moffitt has returned from Pittsboro and the Jamestown Exposition. J. A. Spetcfl and Ed. Hatch went to Jamestown Situ rday to spend a week. Miss Irma Whitfield accompanied Mr. aud Mrs. Wm. C. Hammond to Jamestown last week. Miss Eva Jordan, of Centrul Falls, visited her &ister, Mrs. J. U. Pritchard. Messrs. A conservative estimate of the attendance is 20O0 people coming from every part of the county, as well as from (iuilford county. Miss Flossie Stout, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Stout, of Den ton, was married to Hcmcr Skeen, of Chapel Hill, at the home of the bride last week. Mr. Skeen is a brotbei of Mr. Hendrix Skeeu, of Asheboro. The McDowell Bros, have begun the erection of an iron stable bui.d ing on the extension of North Street between Fayetteville and North Streets. When completed the frame stable building on Depot Street, is to be torn away. Old Trinity, which opened its fall term September 9th, has an en dowment fund of $25,000. $10, 000 of this is from Trinity College, Durham which has direct control of Old Trinity, and $15,000 was raised by private subscription. C. D. Whitley, of Stanley county, who was sentenced to work on the roads of Randolph for a term of three years for Beduction, was par doned last week by Gov. Glenn. McDowell Bros, has begun the erection of the iron building to be used as a livery stable on the exten sion of Worth street from Fayette ville to North streets. In the spring they propose to erect a brick build ing on Depot street, where their stable now stands. J. C. Newsom, who formerly lived in Union Township in this county, has been elected presideut of the new Bismaik Hosiery Mills at Car thage. J. F. Mc Arthur is secretary and treasurer. A number of young people were entertained it the home of Mr. and Mrs. E. B. Kearnslast Friday night in honor of Miss Floe Kearns and brother, Hal, of Durham. Miss Kearns left Tuese'ay for Danville to enter school, and Mr. Kearns went to Alabama Monday where he will enter the Agricultural & Mechani cal College. The attempt at organizing the laymen of the M. E. Church, South, to look after the financial affairs of the Church, has met with success and at the next conference the plan will be perfected. Gen. J. S. Carr, of Durham, has'announced his will ingness to give $5,000 or $10,000 to the organization when perfected. L. Briles, of Trinity, R. F. D. He is seventy years old. He left this country 43 years ago. He and his son Henry stopped over in James town a few days. His son is expect ed here next week. Miss Nannie Ballinger announces a special display of Fall Millinery for Friday and Saturday of next week. She will on these days show the latest fads in millinery. Oaborn, of Cooleemee, has accepted a position with the Wis cassett mills as master mechanic:, and ha moved in the house recently vacated by J. T. Ranuour. J. D. Bacon, our former towns man, will soon move to Greensboro to enter the retail furniture busiuess. Mr. Bacon is a fine mill man and a citizen that any town should be glad to claim. W. D. Talbert suffered a stroke of px,ralsis last Wednesday, which seemed would prove fatal at firtt, but be is slowly improving now. Mrs. Lina Nash's residence on the Wiscassett Hill was destroyed by fire Sunday morning about 0 o'clock. The loss to Mrs. Nash was complete, as the fire was dangerous ly near her bed room when she awoke. At the residence of Pastor II . A.
