.JM, The Asheboro Courier- Asheboro, N. C. Oct. 10 1907. Local and Personal. A. J. Lfcmond has opened a gro cery store on South Fayetteville St. Mrs. W. It. Hanner, of Julian, visited friends here last week. John W. Welborn has bought from John Securest in High Point, a lot and will build thereon Boon. High Point has one thousand no hundred and seventy-five children in the schools of that town. See the manager of the Asheboro 'Telephone Company and arrange to put a phone in your home. Mrs. John C. Bruton, of Troy, is visiting her daughter Mrs. W. II. Watkins Jr., of liamseur. Mr. and Mrs. W. (J. Spivey, of Cameron visited Mr. and Mrs. Claude Hayworth last week. A large number of people from Ashehoro attended the meeting at -Flag Springs Sunday. Miss Julia Thorns .eturned from 'North Dakota lust week, and is a .guest at the home of W.'H. Moring. Rev. W. E. bwain left Monday 'for Burlington tocon'Wct a series of .meetings. hira. J. W. Carroll and children, of Cherryville, are visiting Mrs. H. E. Holly on the latter's grounds Saturday. Mt. Holly won by a score J5 to 12. Miss Linnic Ingram, of High Point, is spending the winter in Asheboro attending school. George T. Penny's fine horse "Valley Medium," won the $300.00 cash prize at the Burlington Fair last week. There was a free musical enter, tainuient at Trinity High School one day last week, which prove! to be a most enjoyable occasion. The Randleman Textile Band re cently gave an entertainment at the home of Wm. G. Johnson in, Raudleman, N. R. Briles and son II. C. A literary society has been formed by the young men of the Kanaie- tmsn Graded School. The society is for the .purpose of improving the young men at debate, and the young men of the town are invited to be present at -each meeting. Mr. J. D. Fox, a member of the Virginia base ball league, is visiting his mother, Mrs. E. L. Fox, on Main Street. The Virginia League, like the Southern League, of which Mr. Fox's brother, Mr. J. C. Teaxue is visiting relatives acd friends at Knoxville, Tenn. Capt. Parkin, of Trinity, was in Asheboro Monday, and Tuesday of this week on business. Ex-Sheriff Lassiter was here Sun day from Greensboro, attending the funeral of Mrs J. M. Lassiter. A cotton mill is on foot for Ran dleman. W. N. Elder, J. H. Millis, C. C. Kandleniin and others are in terested . J. D. Nutt, a promiuent Knight of Pythias, of Wilmington, attended the meeting of the Asheboro Lodge Mtniay. George Bradshaw, of Zuni, Va., and Allen Neave, of Hughesville, Md., students at Guilford College, spent Sunday in Asheboro, E. E. Pugh is making additions to his Cafe at High Poiur, and ex pects to make it a credit to the city. Mr. Pugh is a former citizen of Randolph. "Valley Medium" a bay mare, owned by Geo. T. Penny, took first money at Burlingtou last week m the 2:20 trotting class. The purse was $300. Mr. and Mrs. N. T. Hinshaw are visiting relatives in Maxton, N. C. They will visit Mrs, Hirjshaw's brother, Mr. Chas. Steed, of Rock Hill, S. C, before returning home. The Board of Education was in session MonTlay. The next meeting will be in January unless there is occasion for a call session before that time. Mrs. Annie Robbins and Miss May McAlioter are attending the meeting of the Daughters of the Confederacy, at Greensboro this week. Mrs. W. D. Stedman, Miss Lou ise Slack, Mrs. Anderson and Mrs. E. G. Morris visited Randleman yesterday. They attended the milli nery opening of G, W. Elliott and Co. He has secured ai interest in that mercantile establishment. L. L. Richardson, of Star, was in town yesterday. Mr. Richardson and his father, "N. Richardson and J. T. Jenkins have recently formed a partnership to do a general mer chandise business at Star. It will be known as the Star Supply Co. George Hunscker has resigned his position with the N. and W. Railway in Virginia and has formed a partnership with E. A. Wiles in the insurance business. He will have headquarters at Greensboro. At a meeting of the Iru'siwi of tne Asneooro ,Uraded School, held last week, Miss Ella Hendricks was elected teacher of the fifth grade. Heretofore the fifth and sixth giades have been under one teacher The increase in enrollment in these grades has made divisiou necessary. Tickets to Ralph Bingham, which appears here October 17th, will be on sale at Standard drug store 3 days before the performance. The floor diagram will be there and those de siring may reserve their seats dnring that time. The admission is 60 cents, children half price. Mr. and Mrs. T. E. Lassiter, of Lockville, were here Sunday to at tend the funeral of Mrs. J. M. Las siter. Mr. Lassiter returned Tues day to Lockville. Mrs. Lassiter will remain in Asheboro longer, visiting her parents Mr. and Mrs. C. II. Rush. C. A. Skeen, who left Randolph many years ago, was recently elected to the Legislature in the State of Oklahoma from Cole and Johnson counties by a majority of 2,200 votes.
