Is the guest of her parents here this week. The attorneys Kimball and King of Greensboro were in Asheboro on Tuesdav and Wednesday for the case of Clark vs. Osborne. Mr. M. G. Lovett recently pur chased the residence of Mr. E. A. Clark on Sunset Avenue. The build- has been entirely overhauled making it a most attractive one nto which Mr. ana Mrs. Lovett moved last week. The All red house, a few miles north of Asheboro on the Randlema road, owned by Mr. J.. T. Brittain of this place, was destroyed by fire last Thursday morning. The loss is about' $300 with no insurance. The origin of the fire is unknown. The citizens of the Charlotte school houes- section are preparing to build a new school house, and to this end a box party will be given there on the evening of April 4th, the proceeds to be devoted to that most laudable purpose, invitation to attend is extended to all. The manufacture of brick on a large scale is a most profitable business. Brick can be manufactured for half the selling price. The de mand for brick is active and The Courier suggests that some of our enterprising business men organize company and manufacture brie on a large scale. Mrs. J. A. McKinnon. manager of the tomato work of North Carolina, has secured Miss Estelle Neece as manager of the club work in Ran- olph county. Clubs have been or ganized at the following places; Ju lia? . Providence and Plainfield. Let every one do his best to make this work a success. Early next week. Mr. D. A. Hen- drix, who recently purchased the stock of the Miller store, will give an opening of his new store, which ill show an entirely new stock or pring and summer goods. This will be almost an exclusive "woman s store." and is one of a string of five, including the one here, be longing to and operated by Mr Heudrixi three in Reidsville nnd one ina charlotte. The county superintendent has sent questions to all the teachers who desire them for the seventh grade. Let each and everybody make April 1st a clean up day in truth and fact, both in town and county. While Ashe boro is considered a clean and healthy town, yet there are many im provements to be made before it can be considered anything like perfect. Unhealthy conditions should be made a thing of the past and a new era should begin. Conditions around, fac tories, shops and back lots can be greatly improved. Seed Corn. Old Books and Records About Ran dolph County Wanted. Mrs. E. E. Moffitt. who is now living in Richmond, va.. and is deeply interested in the preserva tion of the history of this section of the State, writes the editor of The Courier-that she has no doubt many historical books could be had from forgotten bookcases in Ran dolph. Rich delightfully entertained the Randolph Chapter U. D. O.. at the home of Mrs. Rush Wednesday af ternoon, March 19th. Mrs M. W. Parrish read a splen did piper on the battle of Shiloh. Mr. and Mrs. Jess Thornburg's little daughter is very sick, we are sorry to note. Mrs. Carl Nance and little son. John Branson, of Salem have been visiting home folks for the past week. Recently in looking over some old books in Raleigh the editor found a copy of Sketches of WeEtern North Carolina, we believe was the tilte. by Henry E. Colton. We had often heard of Dr. Colton, who lived at the old B. Bl Bulla home in Ashe boro. and on looking at the pref ace we found that the book was wiitten in Asheborough in 1851 or 1852, the exact date is not remem bered and that the editor's name was Henry . Colton. There are de scriptions of two routes given to the country beyond the Blue Ridge Mountains, one by Mount Airy ana the other by Salisbury. Any one having anv information about the Colton family, who they were and what became of them, the editor of The Courier would be thankful for a eareful detailed statement of any facts. Any information about the public library in Asheboro that was in exilstence a hundred years or Plans were made for the celebra tion of Memorial Day. May 10th.. As the 1 0th will come on Sunday it was decided to have the ec'ises Saturday, May 9th. The presiient appointed a committee to arrange for same. The Chapter will serve dinner to the Confederate soldiers and their -wives. An interesting pro gram will be gotten up for this oc casion. After the business meeting a social hour was enjoyed.
