FEANKLINVTLLB NEWS Bev. J. T. Rogers filled his -pulpit at the M. E. church Sunday morning and will preach his last sermon here for the conference year next Sunday. Mr. J. T. Buie attended his cou sin's funeral, John B. Cameron, at Lemon Springs, last Wednesday. Mr. Clifford Wrenn, who has been at Aberdeen for some time, is spend fcig a few days with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Wrenn. Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Faris left on tie early train Saturday morning for Oxford where Mr. Faris has accepted a positeon with the Oxford Cotton Mills. Besides being a good mill man Mr. Faris is a splendid citizen, a use ful member of the church and a live member of the Baraca class. We are sorry to give him up and our best wishes will follow him to his new leld. Mr. Will Martindill, of Asheville, is spending some time here with his paw wits, Mr. and Mrs. James Martindill. Mr. Dave Jordan, who holds a posi tion with the S. A. L. railroad, spent a few days with his mother, Mrs. W. C. Jordan, here last wee. Mr. Solomon Lonnie Welch, of Greensboro, spent Tuesday night of last week with Mr. and Mrs. G. C. Cox. Mr. R. W. Garrison made a busi ness trip to Greensboro one day last week. Mr. John Brady, of Montgomery county, has moved his family to the John M. Hammer farm a short dis tance north of the city. Mr. James Ward and" family, of Sandy Creek spent Sunday in town with Mr. G. C. .Cox. Miss Lucy Marsh, of near Patter son's Grove, visited her uncle, John R. Hayes, Sunday. Mr. Muncy Archer, who has been in Reidsville with the American Tobacco Company for some time, is spending some time in town with his uncle, Prof. D. M. Weatherly. The Baraca and Philathea Classen celebrated Hallowe'en day Saturday evening by an oyster spread at the Masonic hall. Some of our people attended the funeral of Mr. Elwood Free at Cedar Falls Moiday evening. Mr. C. H. Julian, superintendent of the Cradle rell for the Franklinville community, spent Sunday morning at Pleasant Cross. He speaks in bighesv terms of their splendid Sunday school. Mrs. Mary MrMasters and daugh ter, Miss Flossie, of Statey Route 1, epent Saturday night and Sunday in town with relatives. Mr. Ray Staley, of Ramseur Route 1, visited at J. R. Hayes' Sunday evening. JURORS FOR DECEMBER TERM The Randolph comity board of com missioners in regular session here monday and Tuesday drew the jury for the two week's term of court to convene in Asheboro the first Monday in December. The lat ter returned to Asheboro Sunday afternoon. Mr. R. M. Russell, who is teaching at Enterprise, in the upper part of the county, spent Sunday in Denton. Mr. M. L. Ritchie, contractor, of Thomasville, has recently completed a large 21 room, double residence in the southern part of Denton, near the Kennels. This house is equipped with all modern conveniences, having its own water works and sewerage sys tem, and is jointly owned by Messrs. G. Dan Morgan and P. H. Powell and will be used as a residence by them and their respective families. Mr. Morgan is the manager of the Denton Sporting Club. Mr. Powell is from NVwpnrl, II. Graves former assistant to the managing editor of the New York Times has been promoted to the position of city editor of that paper. Mr. Graves is the son of the late Ralph Graves, Sr., of Chapel Hill and a nephew of Dr. Graves who formerly lived at Trinity. He is also a rela tive of Mr. Tom Graves who lives near Shiloh. The Printer and Publisher in its cur rent issue has this to say: "Ralph H. Graves, assistant to the managing editor of the New York Times, has been appointed city editor of that newspaper in succession to the late Arthur Greaves. Mr. Graves was born at Chapel Hill, N. C., on July 11, 1878, and was educated at the University of North Carolina, where he took the degree of bachelor of arts in 1307, and the master's degree the following year. Coming to New York he joined tne statT of the Times in June 1899, serv ing until December 1904, when he went to the Evening Post as reporter. Lewis better known in his youth in this county as Dhu Lewis, who has resided in Staunton, Virginia, for the last twenty years, has been promoted by the Civil Ser vice Commission, of Washington, D. C, to the position of watchman ra the National Museum of that city. Mr. Lewis left Randolph county about thirty year ago. He is a broth er to Mrs. C. L. Winslow, of Asheboro; S. A. Lewis, of Troy; and the late Dr. C. H. Lewis, of Farmer. His many friends in this county are glad to) learn that he is doing well and- he has. their best wishes for success in his new work. Mrs. Estelle Callicutt Laughlin Dead Mrs. Estelle Callicutt Laughlin, aged about 30 years, died at the home of her mother, Mrs. A. R. Calli cutt, at Seagrove, Sunday afternoon after a lingering illness. She is sur vived by her parents, Mr. and Mr3. A. R. Callicutt, and four brothers, Messrs. A. S. Callicutt, Seagrove; E. S. Callicutt, High Point; and G. C. and O. H. Callicutt, Pisgah. Funeral services were conducted at the family cemetery near Stricby Monday. NOTICE Having qualified as administrator on the estate of W.
