We w'ere very glad to see the
vigorous action taken by the
mayor and board of aldermen at
; • M regular meeting on Monday
nigiil relative to the illicit traffic
in liquor in Brevard and vicin
ity. We feel sure that the good
people of the community wull up
hold the joint committee in the
duties assigned them^ and if they
can only get public sentiment to
I back them we will find that our
boys and youug men will not be
subjected to the temptation
offered to them by those who
violate our laws in connection
with the liquor traffic. It will
be impossible for the committee
to do any effective work unless
they have the hearty and united
upport of our people and we
'e each and every citizen of
nd county to lend

undertaking’. The

On Monday last President
Roosevelt called the United
States senate to meet in extra
ordinary session March 5. The
Asheville Citizen of Tuesday
says editorially:
The extraordinary session of
the senate called yesterday by
the president to meet on next
Thursday is for the purpose of
ratifying the Parama and Cuban
reciprocity treaties. This will
probably be the only business
taken up, though the senate can,
if it so desires, enter upon the
question of reorganization and
appointment of committees. The
opin'on in Washington appears
to be that this will not be done
and that the session will last only
about two weeks.
On the first day of the new ses
sion the new senators will be
sworn in. Among them will be
Hon. Lee S. Overman, the new
senator from this state, who suc
ceeds Senator Pritchard.
