The acreage i)lant- | ed is 28,?(i7,UuO, an increase of 1.U29,- 000 over last year, or 3.7 per cent. The average condition of the grow ing cron on -May 2G was 74.1 as com pared with 95.1 on May 2G, lM(i2. SI.5 on May 2, lyui, and a lu-year average of S().9. Philadelphia, June 4.—'Standing by the side of the coffin which had tho body of her father. Henry G. Morse, of the New York Ship Building com pany, Miss Marie Morse has becomo the bride of Harry A. Horner. The wedding was originally set for next Saturday. When the suidcii death of Mr. Morse. wRo was strick en with apoplexy on Tuesday after noon in the office of J. P. Morgan, in New York, was cormmunicated to hi;j family, the announcement wt'.s madii that tho wedding had been indefinitely postponed. ^Nliss Morse reconsidered the matter, however, and. accomiia- nied by a small group of relatives the bridal couple entered the room where la.v the bod.v of Mr. Morse and were married by Rev. Dr. Tompkins. CHILD EATS GLASS AND DIES. Two-Year-Old Gets Hold of Electric Light Bulb. Columbia. S. C., June 4—Litde Ruth, the 2-year-old daughter of Colonel W. G. Stephenson, superintei\dent of th(* Kings Mountain Military academ.v. af Yorkville, died under peculiar circum stances. For several days the child had been sufi;ering from what wag thought to be dysentery. A physician was called in and made the discovery a short time before the child’s death that it had swallowed glass, having got possession of a broken electric light bulb. Pieces of glass an inch in length were found to have passed through the bowels of the child. Topeka Coming Clear of Flood. Topeka, Kans., June G.—Tlie Kaw river fell 2 inches an hour throughout Friday night and today the south side of Kansas avenue is uncovered clear to the bridge. On the north Fide pe destrians and wagons can get five blocl\S further north from the bridgo to Gordon street without getting int;j water. In some residence portions of North Topeka, however, the water still stands in eddying j)ools and rushes down Cross streets in a whirl ing channel at an average depth of 3 feet. At the present rate of disap pearance the entire town site will be free from v/ater Sunday noon. Mrs. Greene Will Still Go Arnved. Ala., says: The mill of the Kyle Lumber company, the largest in north Alabama, was de stroyed by f.re. The watchman drop ped his lamp. The kiln and lumber in the yards were saved. It was made necessary by the drought. Greenwood Bank Suspends. Columbia, S. C., May 25.—The City Bank of Greenwood. with a capital stock of $50,0(10, suspended payment Wednesday.
