There ai)pears to be some fatal malady aniony; the cats of this sec tion and reports reach us from everv direction that the cats ar<‘ dyin«>-. After a season of greater suc cess than at the beginnin^f we dared hope, the Brevard base ball team has disbanded for the year 1903 to be rorganized early in the season of 1904 and win, we trust, even gi-eater honor for itself and for Brevard than in the season just closed. The team played in all 28 games of base ball, of which it lost 11 and won 17. When it is remembered that a maiority of these games were played away from home, on strange grounds, before crowds of people who wanted to see the other teams win, and with um pires inchned the same way, it will be seen that our boys did exceedingly well. Our bitterest rival, Hendersonville, has been crushed to earth nevei' (unlike truth) to rise again, in all proba bility. Hendersonville certainly got together a good team at the close of the season, but not quite good enough to be placed in the same class with Brevard, The benetit our town has de rived from the baseball team is incalculable. The sport which has been afforded to citizens and visitoi’s would well re[)ay the in vestment. But far moi'e than that is the benetit derived fi’om the notoriety given Brevard by our successful team.
