ers, we will have an epidemic that will not only bring sorrow and suffering into the homes of many of our citizens, but said ep idemic will also, lose us many thousands of dollars by keeping visitors away. We should there- Thoughts For Bnvard. traded School and Sewerage Are the Im portant Necessities of Our Town. At the last session of the Leg islature an act was passed giving | fore have an estimate made of Brevard the right to issue bonds ' the cost of a first class sew’erage to the amount of $30,000. The | system and in addition to our is now here when we should | school we should also have think the matter over and decide j sewerage. We should call an election to j We appeal to our citizens, well determine w^hether or not any of i knowing their publicspiritedness said amount be issued. Ahe law provides that said bonds shall be issued for the pur* pose of securing for the town 'vater, lights, paved streets, sewerage and schools. While 've wish it was possible to obtain ^11 these benefits at present, we realize that w'e are not able to af ford such an expenditure. In fact the maximum amount that could be raised by a bond issue, (^30,000) is not enough to ac complish all these objects. It behooves us then to select those improvements which we need the most, those which will tend to the upbuilding of Brev^ard and h(*r citizens. Not one word can ! be said against paved streets, i as well as their pride in Brevard, that they carefully consider this proposition, see where it will ben efit us—we mean us the natives —as well as advertise our town. Give our children chances to be educated by giving them a grad ed school and protect the health of the family and town by giving us a sewerage system. An Exciting Hunt. W^hile John Morris, of Upper Davidson River, was on the Short Kidge in the Balsam mountains, last week gathering balsam, he discovered two little cub bears. The bear stopped w’h( n John got to his camp, which was in a clearing. John says this is the first time in his experience that he has ever been hunted and that it is very exciting. There is one of two things sure, either John is a good runner to get away from a bear or he is able to assume such an attitude as to fool the huntinjj: editor. Notice. Not in the nature of conveniences, but that are neces sities, The answer is ]>lain and will quickly present itself to any thinking citizen, namely, a good .school and sewerage. It has come under our imme diate observance in two cases, where families had contemplated moviug to Brevard, but decided not to do so as the school facili ties were so very jmor. But this <f|uestion of schools is not only one that effec:^s a new comer, but applies with equal force to every citizen of Brevard. Wh le we .i^hould consider would-be citizens in most of our doings, still our tirst great duty is to our own cit izens, and to their boys and girls. Our present educational facilities are not creditable to a country <?ross roads settlement and we .should endeavor to secure a tirst <,la.ss graded school for our town. Breviird could have no bet ter ad vertisement than a tirst-class irraded school. It will not only prove a good investment but it is oui- duty to our (diildren that we ; The following were drawn as jury- educate them.
