the earnest solicitations of the
voters of this county, they had
failed to pay the interest when it

it is a saving of many hundreds

We are glad to learn that our
enterprising neighbor is going to
add to her many attractions a
park, lake and street car system.
Pew towns in Western Carolina
can offer as many natu:-al induce
ments to visitors as Henderson
ville, and with the above men
tioned improvements she will be
far ahead of any towns except
Asheville ana Brevard. Tiie
time has ])assed when Brevard
need have any jealous feelings
about Hendersonville; there is
room for botli, and enough peo-
[)le come to the mountains during
the year to fill both to overflow
ing. In fact every im])rov(Mnent
Hendersonville makes is a benefit
to Brevard, and the same is true
of lii-evard's improvements.
Tiiere should always be a rea
sonable amount of civic, pride in
the citizens of earJi town, anti
also a small amount of rivalry,
but our energies should be spent
making greater imiu-ovements
and in offering greater induce
ments to the traveling public and
not in making violent and un
seemly attacks on each other.
Our interests ai’o identical, and
that which benefits the one but
adds to the other. It affords us
[)leasure to advisi' (V,ir visitors |
when lh(\ydoci(le lo go elsewhere j
that in Hendersonville they will i
find much to please the eye, and
we assure them that the health
and accommodations of our
neighbors are all thiit could b(>
desired. If Henderson vi He should
become as })0])ulous as New York,
Brevard would be its Brooklyn.
Summer visitors I'arely S[)e!ul
the entire season at any one re
sort. We want them to be
pleased with our mountain coun
try; we want them to know that
there is another town as attrac
tive and pleasant as Brevfird; we
want them to come back next
year, and the year after, so we
talk for Hendersonville, which
we can do with all truth. We
are close together, and we can
hold a much larger number of
tourists in this section by speak
ing well of our nearest neighbors
than we could by making harsh
criticisms or unjust accusations.
A genuine neighborly spirit and
feeling will do much to improve
both towns, and it is our e.'irnest
desire and intention to create and
foster a feeling of friendship and
fellow’ship and community of in
terest between the two best
towns in the mountains—Bre
vard and Hendersonville.
