The Delineator still maintains its position at th(‘ head of all fashion magazines, and very few articles of women’s a])parel are made or select ed witln)ut consulting its i)ages. Every lacJy who exp(>ets to keep in touch with prevailing styles should be a reader of the old reliable De lineator. The congregation of the Presbyte rian church deserve great credit for the manner in which they have beautified their church lot and for the general appearance of the church. The building is kept nicely painted and the grounds are nicely sodded and have beautiful flowers in the front of the church. Transylvania Railroad riie Reported Sale of this Road to the Southern Is Without Foundation. At the time our article of last .veek, giving publicity to the ru- nored sale of theTranrylvania to he Southern railway was writ- en, J. P. Hays, general managei )f our road was not in town and vas not seen in connection with )ur report. In an interview thi.*- veek he authorizes us to deny ii oto that any negotiations havt )een or are now being made foi my change in the ownership ol he Transylvania railroad. Mr. clays assures us that if a transfei- )f this property were contem- j)lated there are no valid reasons vvhy the fact should be kept se :ret. The road is paying its run tiing expenses and interest on its ndebtedness and is therefore not bankrupt nor in the market as a bargain sale. The manifest friendshi]) wliicb ixists between our road and the Southern is not more marked ihan should bebetweenany trunk line and its feeders. The fad that this road is using a South <ern freight engine in handling its business this summer is explain » d by the fact that the engine purchased for this road was not properly fitted for short curves, and has been temjiorarily ex changed with the Southern for one that is. The Southei’n is giving more [)rominence in its summer re sort advertising to the Beautiful Sapphire Country than miglil seem mei'ited, but thei'e is scarce ly another resort section on its entire line which brings the road as much business. Prominent officials of the Southern have l>een guests at the various hotels of the Toxaway Company, and may have stayed longer than would seem pro|)er to an outsider unless they had business interests here to detain them. But curiosity to see the resorts which tlieii’ (.-ompany was advertising caused theii- visits, and their slay among the beauti ful and healthful surroundings of our delightful summer climate shows that even roilroad ofticials can be credited with good judg ment. The fact is the Toxaway Com pany and the Transylvania Rail road Com])any have been pre- sistent workers for the develo)) ment and i)rogress (jf this moun tain section. They have advanc ed hundreds of tliousands of d<)llars in improvements v/hich it will require many years to get back. Tliey still have our wel fare at heart but the time has come when our i)eople must do something for themselves if they would rea[) the benetits wliich these comi)anies have ]»laced within tlieir reach. The Toxa way Tanning Co. and the l^re- vard Tannin Co. have been lo cated here through their iniiu- ence, but if the i)eo[)le would get the benefit of these industries the^’^ must make roads to them. The Toxaway comi)any would be glad to put in steam heat and make the Franklin a winter as well as a summer resort, but Bi’e- vard must build sidewalks and streets before the class who would patronize such a hotel can be induced to come here. The lesson is plain—prosperity for every resident of this county is in sight, but 'you must make an effort to get it. Brevard Industrial School. BH.EVAHP, N. c.
