The fair held at Herderson- ville last week proved a g’eat success, and we congratulate our sister town on her ability to get up so creditable and satisfactory an exhibition in the very short time in which this fair was got ten up. We feel sure that next year it will be one that will invite the attention of people over the entire state and outside thereof. The advantages resulting from a domestic fair of this nature are so many and so far reaching that every one in Western North Car olina should help make the next fair an exhibition representing all sections. Transylvania will do all in-her power and will make a very creditable exhibit along all lines. The newspapers of Hendersonville deserve great credit for the manner in which they advertised the last fair, and they were largely the cause of its success. Among the judges were two Transylvania men — Thos. S. Wood, who was one of the judges of cattle, and T. T. Patton, who was one of the judges of horses, and no more capable and honor able men could have l een chosen. The iCthelwoId Brevard*s New Hotel. Open the whole year. Service and table first class. Another Sad Example. We read in last Saturday’s Asheville paper of the death of a young man from Wa3mesvi]le who died in the basement of the Hotel Berkely. While the young man may not have been under the in fluence of whisky when he died, still it is a fact that he had been drinking hard for several days previous thereto. This sad hap pening occurring so soon alter the terrible crime of Dr. Jay should cause all thinking men to ponder over the disasti’ous re suits of intemperance and to use tlieir best efforts to I’emov^e this terrible cnrse from our midst. Medical Society Meets. The regular meeting of the Transylvania Medical Society j was held in the court room on [last Monday with seven physi i cians present. Dr. C. W. Hunt presided and Dr. R S. English was secretary. Among the more important work done was the following which we copy from the minutes of the meeting: There was a motion carried to insist on tiie Board of County Commissioners to purchase a Formaldehyde Apparatus for dis infecting houses after contagious or infectious diseases, to be used by any of the physicians of the county. There was a motion carried to insist that the Board of County Commissioners put proper water and sewage in the court house and jail, and if the board refuses so to do. the Superintendent of Health is to bring the matter be fore the grand jury. It was moved and carried that the Superintendent of Health recommend that the water com pany and the Board of Aldermen sup[)ly a public watering place at or near the public square. It was moved and carried that all the physicians of the couaty contribute any information w’hich they can on milk sickness. Those motions that touch upon the county procuring a disinfect ing plant and also that water be put into the jail and court house and to procure a watering trough in town for the public deserve the attention of all our citizens and should have the hearty support of all. The motion touching on the study of milk sick is another resolution that will be productive of great good to our county, and every effort should be made to furnish the doctors with all the information available.
