Kditors Sylvan Valley Mews. It seems that the minds of the people of this end of the county are v-.ry much wrought up over the sad occurrance of last Thurs day evening. Mr. B. C. Owen decided that the troubles and cares of this life were greater than he could bear, and so took his own life by plunging himself into Toxaway lake. We cannot understand why anyone should so disregard the sacredness of human life and plunge headlong into eternity and drown them selves in order to drown their troubles. Car is a brother to our missionary, Rev\ J. C. Owen, and has long been a member and faithful worker in Oak G’*ove church. He was very zealous in the construction of our new’ church building, in the promotion of our schools and the public wel fare in general and his loss will be greatlyfelt throughout the u[)j)er end of our county. His la bors will remain as monuments in the years to come to remind us of the interest he has taken in the uplifting of fallen humanity. Yet he is gone and we do not un derstand it. It seems that his princi[)ail troubles were with some of the members of his own family. List Sunday there was baptis ing at Oik Gi-ove conducted by Rev, .J. K. Owen, after which the congregjition assembled at the church iind listened to a sermon by liev. ,T. E. Galloway of Toxa- way. Gideon Miller is still li with dreiJTs of mumps. lie lias been down nearly a year and has walked but very little during- this time. His little girl Ida has been very ill for the past two vreeks with pneumonia and plu- risy. but by the faithful efforts of Dr. Cannon she is now conva- esceiu. ^ mail is being carried on uin to ri;i,ke Toxaway. Mrs. .lolm F. Henry returned last Friday to her home in Louisville Ky., after a sojourn of several months in Brevard. She will spend the winter with her married daughter, Mrs. Er nest F. Bacon, and will probably re turn to her beautiful new summer cottage in Brevard early next season. On Wednesday night the United States Fish Commission car in charge of Capt. Johnson arrived at Brevard with a large load of California and mountain trout. Those who asked the government for the fish were on hand to receive them and were so fortunate as to get many more than they e.xpected as several parties who had applied a t Penrose failed to meet the train and theret^ore those fish were brought on to Hjrevard and dis tributed among the ^ipplicants here.
