The was a rumor floating round in space That gave us all the blues; It was w'ired down from Asheville As a little bit of news. It stared in hideous figures As the bulletin we sought; The simple little mesfage of— Twenty-thi-ee to naughti To one on the outside it looks very much as though the Bre vard team had a serious case of “rattles.” Last Wednesday and Thursday they })Ut the Hender sonville team under the pot lid for two ^^anies. On Friday and Saturday they called a halt on the winning streak of the leaders and tucked the “Spartans” in their little beds for a couple of I sleeps. But on Monday— Oh! I it was pitiful, and we would rath- i er forget it Tliey went up j aj?ainst the Co^ginites at Ashe- ' ville full contidence, but through : a mistake of some one a young I man by tlie hame of Harrisor, I from—no one knows where—was I put in the box for Brevard, and tlie way tlie Asheville boys fell o:i him with both feet was a I downright shame. Nineteen hits for twenty-three runs was enough to rack the nerves of any set of ^ players. It is a riddle to the base ball ])iiblic wliy the matiagers of the Brevard team will always play their weakest men at the begin ning of a series. It is good s})orting policy to win out out if ]>()ssible and tlien ganf^le for chances. A plunger goes intoalou W. II. K.ulkner. 'game with moi-o vim and s[)iiit Terrell W. Taylor Dead. Old Sheriff of Henderson County Ooes t*o i£b Oinal Rest. Terrell W. Taylor, for many years sheriff of Henderson coun ty and familiarly known as “Old Sheriff Taylor,” died at the home of his son-in-law Town Marshal J. A. Bryson Wednesday, aged 78 years. Mr. Taylor had been in poor health for several months and gradually grew weaker until ex hausted nature ceased her strug gles. The remains were taken to Henderson county yesterday, and the interment was at Refuge churchyard. Terrell Taylor was tirst elected sheriff of Henderson county in the fifties, before Transylvania was organized as a county, and as a consequence was well known to many of our older citizens and is familiarly mentioned as “the bravest and best sheriff” that county ever had. After the death of his first wife he emigrated with his two boys to Texas and for several j’^ears was a citizen of the Lone Star state. His life and efforts to maintain order during the war would make an interesting story, and his death will cast a shadow over the lives of many very w’arm personal friends. Peace be with him.
