Woodbridge went to Asheville Tuesday to spend the rest of the week. ^ • Dr. and Mrs. Robert Kirksev of Pickens, C., spent a few days in town this week .visiting Major Breese. Mrs. Robert U. Garrett of* Ashe ville returned home Sunday after spending a week with her sister, Miss Delia Gash. The convention to nominate town officers has been called to meet in the court house on,Tuesday, April 15, at eight o’clock. The school children of the county are requested to meet in Brevard at the Brevard Institute on Satur day, April 12, at 12 o’clock. Mr. T. C. Henderson left this wewk for Cullowhee to attend the annutfl contest between the high schools of the western part of the state. Judge A. C. Avery of Morganton is a court visitor this week. The judge is well known throughout the state and has many friends in this county. Avery attractive entertainment will be given under the auspices of the Betterment Association at the graded school building Friday even ing, April 4, at 8 o’clock. Brevard Baptist church, April. 6. Sunday school at ten o’clock a. m. Preaching at 11:00 and 7:45 p. m. Morning subject: “Salvation Uni versal Through Christ.” Night subject: “The Unknown God.” The public is cordially invited. The pupils of the Baptist Sunday school gave a missionary program last Sunday morning whiqh was greatly ^joyed. One feature of the program was a song in Chinese by the small daught^t of Rev. J. C. Owen, who recently returned from China. ^ Presbyterian church services at 11 a. m. and 7:30 p. m., on Sunday, April 6, 1913. Congregational meeting immediately after morn ing service. Sunday school at 10 a. m. Christian Endeavor on Tues day evening at *7:45. A cordial welcome is extended to all. “Uncle Zeke” Fowles, formerly connected with the News, and Miss Ella Sparks were married at the home of the bride at Ellenboro, N. C., last week. The News joins with the many friends of Uncle Zeke here in extending congratula tions and best wishes for a prosper ous married life. Mrs. D. G. Ward entertained the Embroidery club on Wednesday of this week and made it the occasion for a carnation shower in honor of Miss N^-ncy B. Clarke, whose mar riage to Mr. Henry N. Carrier takes place onr April 30th. Quite a num ber of ladies besides «members bf the club were invited, and each guest was requested to biing a car nation, three buttons and a senti ment. expressing'a wish for the bride-to-be. First the buttons were hidden and the guests were bidden to search for them, then each lady in turn was blindfolded and endeav ored to place them in a ^bag sus pended from the chandelier, which afforded much merriment. Hon. Walter Moore of Webster has been defending a number of clients in Sux)erior court this week. He says he does not want the Jack son county court house moved- to Sylva. Congressman J. M. Gudger has sent several hundred packages of garden seeds to the News for dis- tribntion. Anyone can get them by calling or sending their name to News office. Mr. C. B.
