Clement attended the state association of opticians at Wrightsville Beach, returning the latter part of last week. Mr. G. M. Riddle, wife and daughter of Travelers Rest, S. Randolph Preston and little daughters, Anna Jackson and Julia Cortlandt, of Charlotte, ar rived Monday to visit Mrs. William R. Robertson. General Passenger Agent Cary of Washington and District Passenger Agent Wood of Asheville stopi>ed in Brevard Monday on their way to Lake Toxaway. Miss Ruth McFee and Miss Eulie Ti.sdele of Tryon were recent visit ors to Mrs. J. W. Smith, returning home last Tuesday'. Miss McFee is a sister of Mr. Charles McFee, a former resident of Brevard. Miss Edith Carithers, Mrs. W. J. Wilkins and children. Annie, Ruth, Ada, Morton and Billy Wil kins, all of Florence, S. C., are re cent arrivals at Mrs. Keefe’s, at the King cottage in West End. A party traveling by auto from Dacnsville, S. C., is visiting at Mr. W. C. Hunt’s. They are Mr. Hunt’s mother, Mrs. M. H. Hunt, and Mr. James Hunt, wife, daughter and son. At Mrs. Welch Galloway’s are the following visitors, recently ar rived : Mrs. Robb of Columbia, S. C.; Mrs. Church and two children of New Orleans; Miss Hattie Daw son of Charleston, S. C.; Miss Gugle of Macon, Ga. Prof. J. C. Councilman of Bir mingham, Ala., arrived last Satur day at Camp Sapphire to take up duties as instructor in mathemat ics. He was accompanied by his wife and child, aod tbe three are staying at Beech Nut Farm. Mr. Spurgeon Ledbetter of Pen rose was recently elected by the committee at Island Ford to teach the school at that place. He will take charge of the school on the first Monday in August and teach for five months. He is one of the young teachers, having taught his first school last year, Mrs. B. W. Trantham recently opened for summer visitors “Squir rel Inn,” which has been enlarged and makes a most attractive snbnr- bun boarding place. The visitors there are: Mrs. Harleeof Florence, S. C.; Mr. and Mrs. Wolf and child of Charlotte; Mr and Mrs. Parker and three children of Jacksonville, Fla. The register of deeds recently issued the following marriage li censes, in which the naipes of the contracting parties are strongly gnggeative of the region in which * they live: Harley McCall and Sa vannah Owen of Canada, Jackson county; Lonie McCall and Littie Owen of Gloucester, which touches Miss' Mattie Belle Jones of West Asheville, is visiting in Brevard. • Mr. Donald Campbell of Ashe ville was in Brevard this week on legal business. Mr. J. A. Miller has had a fine cement driveway constructed on his premises on Probarte street. Rev. T. F. Marr, pastor of Trin ity Methodist church, Charlotte, is visiting here at his summer home. Mrs. Oulla of Spatanbnrg, who was Mis.s Strobie King, is visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. M. King. Dr. Mary Bryce Herbert of Ches ter, S. C., is visiting the Haynes party at the Nicholson cottage on the Brevard Institute grounds. The Thompson Orphanage and Mission Guild of St. Philips church will hold a parcel post sale on Tuesday, .[uly ‘i8, from 10 to I2::50i a. m. at the U. D.
