Moye of Pitt has flopped over at last to the Third party, they haye been swings ing on the feuce lo ! these many days, waiting for something to drop them on one aide or the other. Now the Democrats know how to meet them, where to place them, and what to call them, and the- will be sure to put them where the ought to go on" set" tling day in November next. Mr. F. M. Simmons, Chairman of the State Executive Committee, has been to New Vork, visited G rover Clevc'and at his home, and inviud him to come to North Carolina dur ing the campaign to speuk. Mr. Cleveland has not arranged his can- vass in ihe South yet but expects to speak in our State in the month of September some time. North Caro lina will give hiui a hearty welcome and aiore than that, she will sustain i lier former record by giving him her electoral vote in November. The Clinton Caucasian, a red-hot Third party paper edited by Mr. Mari on Butler is being scattered and distri buted right promiscuously over our comity, trying to taint llaruetts 'Democracy. But we are more than proud to say our people have no con fidence in a man or his paper which waits oa the lence to see, or try to find which side the big wave is on, and then flops over when he thin!: lie can get the most or it. The Dunn Academic Institute op ened Monday with 35 pupils, several boarders already in and others ex peeled. Mrs. J B. Holland and Mrs. J. W. Smith come home j'esterday from a trip to the sound. Mrs. Smith was accompanied by her sister MisDella Canady from near Wilmington. Messrs. I. W, Taylor, Zack Taylor, S. W. Parker, M. Bell, Mordecai Lee and Hardy D-aughan went up to Third Party State Convention Mon day. One of onr most popular 'oung men took his girl in the coun'.ry last Sunday to spend the day, and after passing it oir very pleasantly, one of the young ladies fnenJs gave her a pretty pet kitten lo take home as she seemed fond of cats, at once her es cort got a sad:, put the kitten in it, and started for the buggy, but, to his regret, before reaching the desired place he let the cat out of the bag. Bro. we sympathize with you. We received two communications while we were away advocating a gentleman for Sheritf a- d last week one bringing out a man for the Leg islature, but as its against our rules to publish free an adveitiseruent. for any particular man, why we could not publish the communications, if any one desires us to put in a card it will coH you $1.00. or if tbey wish us to advocate any individual, we will be pleased to make rates to them. Thk Times can't see tha consisen cy ofsome of t lie Third party candi dates, for instance the gentleman who served" us as Treasurer as a Derrocrat, has accepted the nomina tion from the Third party before bis term expired, and now be is serving us as a Democrat and running for the same ofllce as a Third party tn-n. We think it only justice to himself and the Democratic party that he re sign. A man who is willing to fill the office jjiven him by his former party, ought to be loyal an 1 true to it But here is a man who shows his appreciation to the party wtro placed him in ttllce by desening it in the time of need. Well, had he stuck to what he had, there would be a chat ce of bin remaining Treasurer of Harnett another term, but alas; he is now gone. If he has not resigned it is simply just what he sho Id do at once. The Lemon Tarty. Tuesday evening Miss Eula Cox gave to her many friends a Lemon Party, some thing new in our social circle, quite a number of ladies and gentleman including the visiting ladies of our town were present, and participated in the very amusing and enjoyable affair. The ladies all wore their best smiles and fery sweet were they -too, so much so that, our young men put forth their best efforts of gallantry for the occasion. At 10 :30 o'clock tbey were served with lemonade, cake and grapes, which was highly enjoyed. Then came the guesses, or why it was called a Lemon Party, a parcel of lemon seed was placed in a dish and every one had to guess the nam berof seed. The 3'ong men and ladies who gueseed nearest and furtherest from the number were presented with prizes. The one neare?t a boquet of flowers and the other a booby prize. Mr. A. B. Godwin won the first prize. Miss Lena Hatten of Green ville. N. C, delivered it Mr. Lee J. Best won the booby prize.. Miss Sue McKay presented it. Miss Janie Dunklin of Auburn, Ala., won the vase of flowers, Mr. Lee J. Best de livered them. Miss Mamie Johns of Auburn, N. C, won the booby, Mr. G. K. Grantham presented it. As the clock told of the mind night hour all adjourned for home thinking only of the pleasant evening iust spent. A Call- The Republicans of Harnett coun ty will hold a Convention at Lilling tdn on the 23rd Inst, to elect dele gates to tbe State Convention, which will convene on Wednesday, Septem - ber 7th, 1892. Rev. R. F. Graeme, Chairman pro. tern., ill preside. Come one and all. Each township rauot bo fully represented. An Experience- Once f met a maiden fair, With sweet brown eyes and lovely hair; Her many charms were so rich, so rare; That from my heart 1 could not tear The lovely image of one so fair. That was stamped so plainly for ever there, Though I tried so hard, but all in vain, When her Under heart, I could , , R8n- Though hope was still within ray breast. And never was my henrt at rest; Both night and day, I cou'd but feel. While sad recollections, would o'er me s eal. That hope was gone, my heart was too. For its very throb was beat for two, And while with sadness, 1 could not relate, 1 resolved to rest and patiently wait. Well, this, my friends was ha-d to do. But my resolution, I carr ed thro'j Aud, I'm glad to sa', it was the best, To content myself, with my lieart at rest. For when my every hope returnee, My mind, it seemed; foreytr burned With a pleasant thought.-a happy dream. That on me, some day, -those" eyes would beam. With love g-riat, so pure, so true, As the heart's that ere. beut far two; And that my heart would happy be, When her sweet smiles, my ej es could eee. And know thy t they so sweet, di vine, Were really won, no one's but mine; 'Tis hard be sad so long, and wait, But just one smile did compensate. My mind was free, my lieart was My love for her, I wished to sa'. And soon, yes soon, my heart was glad. And never more did I feel sad, For when my love, I did express, And asked for hers, she answered -yes," And from that day, hence; untij this. I've lived a life of joy and bliss. Kind friends, be benefited by H113; And for happineso, alwaj's wait, For just as it is always with a kis?, Its sv7eetness lorever will compen sate. Axon. Wrltteu for The Timks. ON SAMPSON COUNTY NOMINEES- - While talking to a good and reli able Sampson county man a short while ago, there was something said concerning the Third party and the nominees of their ticket in Sampson. And ho spoke of some one in Samp son who had given tbe nominees the name of "tho Woodpecker crowd," and he made mention of the fact that the majority of the nominees were red headed, and of course we had to agree that a more appropriate name could not have been given. Well, judging fiom their name, and the 4,Woodpecker's" reputation as a pecker, it is reasonable to sup pose that they will do no small amount of pecking before the elec tion. And as these were only young "Woodpeckers," and inexperienced, they selected an old experienced one, in the person of Mary -Ann" Butler, to select the tree on which the peek ing is to be done, and begin the pecking for them. Well, he, ("Mary-Ann") lost no time in his work, and we must think it was without thought on his part, that he selected the tree of Democ racy, of which he used to fry to be an important branch, but found that he had last all significance, and here after would not be recognized, even as a knot on the tree, for there is not a tree in all the world thai could bear more pecking than tho one se lected, and we know the young "Woodpecker's" will be very much discouraged at the selection. And we feel very sure that all the pecking they can do will not make a hole in the tree, and that the young "Woodpeckers" will experience tbe same sad fate of the one that "flew over the school house door, and peck ed ad peeked till bis pecker got sore." Now, we are not trying to dis courage you, young Woodpeckers, but only reminding you of what a ! hard time you'll have, so that you can't blame us when you come home ; in November with your bills all : worn 0:, aud your "sad hearts troub- i W at missing your offices. I , : ', 1 To the voters of Harnett count j. As there has been but little said a to who will be the nominee lor the House of Representatives. I will through the columns of The Cen tral Times as a voter in Grove township, recommend a man who has been tried and found true to the people and Democratic party. He has served the people of Harnett county in the Legislature at one time j he is a farmer and a staunch Demo- j crftt & t" readers of the Times know, and will accept and serve tbe people well if nominated. He now serves the people of Harnett county as County surveyor, and his name is Daniel E, Green of Hectors Cicek tow.iship. This bein a time of need the above name It especially recom menied in the county Convention. L. L. T. Fair Notice r To the officers and members of the First colored Baptist church of innn,-N.-C.
