Will you be kind enough to publish in the daily Jews and CJb crver what the law 13 and greatly obliged, Yojrs tru'j, J,s. II. ATWATEf.. Section 2,834 of the Code, as araendfd by the Gaceral Assempl of 1591, provides that "no person 8'iall kill or shoot, trap or net any partridges, quafl. doves, robins, larks, mocking-birds or wild turkeys, be tween the fifteenth day of March and the first day of November in each year, and tbe person so offending shall be guilty of a misdemeanor, and fined not exceeding ten dollars for each offense." This lathe gsreral law, but a num bcr of counties have- either been en tirely exempted from its provisions or special act passed extending or shortening tl; time provided in the general law. The counties of Dare, Onflow, Carteret Jones, Columbus, Clay, Lb p'kee, Swain and Graham have no law for th.r protection of birds, Macon has a law only in re gard to wild turkeys, wknle in Stanly county it is allowtd to kill wild tur keys at any tiujo during the year. In the counties of Moore, Wilson, Hyde and Pamlico ths law is not ap plicable to doves a. id larks, and in K,igecombe it does nat apply to doves. In craven, Duplin and Cum berland counties f.imera are allowed to shoot, on their own land, par tridges and other birds doing ir jury to Ueir crops. It is unlawful to kill birds in Wil son, Montgomery and Meckhnburg between February 1 and November 15; in Rwwan between Febtuary 15 and Nov tinner 15; in Randolph and Davidson between Apr 1 1 rik Octos bcr 1; in Iredeli between lest day of March ai.d first day of November; in Tyrrell between March 2 and October 15. In Ca-fca-rus it is unlawful to kill birds, except robins, between March 15 and November 15. The shooting of quail is allowed in Beau fort and Hjde counties from October 15 to March 20. It Is said that Mr. Cleveland is the author of the words. "Public office is a public trust.' Han.. WELL SAW. The AshevjBe Citiien says so well what we would have aaid, and ao well expresses our sentiment that we copy what we may hesd "Fght ihe Enemy, Pusb the war into Africa" and cut into our own ranks. Iu says : There i a time to laugb and a time to weep; there i3 a time to re joice and a time to 'iiuum; there is a time to talk and a titns to keep silence all of whLh is in accord ance with the Scripture. There is as such truth in these tarings ben applied to politics ad to religion and tbe Citizen would commend their wisdom to certan newspapers nd politicians iu North Carolna to day. This is not the time to weep over what may be con sidered the L W. ... it is an opportune moment to laugh at tbe inability of Fusion- in North Carolina to carry out the pledges it madu tbe people either as to Slate or national affair, This is not the tim to mourn ovei tbe ' might have beens," but it i. tbe mo. t auspicious occasion for rejoicing oyer the b :nefits that Democracy has brought to the coutj try. Let the press of. t'J State keep ringing in tuc "a of the people the extravagance, the incompetence, the outrageous enaotinents of the la t legislature. Let it be known from Manteo to Murphy and from Pender to Person, that instead of the reforms promised, the coalition legislature of last winter was a disgrace to this State second only to the carnival of crime and debauchery that was wits nessed in Raleigh n 186869. Instead of striving to draw the line and show to the world the dif ferences that eziat in our own ranks on the silyer question, let our news papers ply questions to coalition Sen ators and Congressmen, and ask then: how, when and where thy propose to give the people free cjngc as prom ised last year. There is no paper in North Carolina but knows that these coalitionists will stand in the halls of Congress without a party to back them, without any organization to sustain thorn, wi hout a hope or even the shadow of a hope to cive free coinage to the country. By them selves they will bo nothing; with the tremendous Retqblican majoiity, which hs always been, and is now. unalterably and hit'eriy opposed to free coinage, they will be 5n a minor ity so hopeless, an attitude so redicu- Iqub that every voiei in Nonh Caro lina cau be made to sue that the promises they made were for catch tng votes insincere and win Jy ul terances made with no thought or iutention of fulfillment Ox lftst Monday says the Njws & Observer SherirT YVooten of liladen, brought Ex-treasurer John M.
