Its returns will throw some light upon Bryanism in the country west of the Mis souri. The city of Detroit elects a mayor on November 2nd. This contest may be fought upon municipal issues, or along ; national lines . Until the contest develops further no prediction as to the significance of the returns can be made. The contest in Kentucky for clerk of the Court of Appeals will bring out a good-sized vote, and there is not a State in the) ''Union which in the present condition of partisan welfare is more im portant. , Kentucky was saved for Mc Kinley hist year by the narrow est kind of a plurality, clearly attributed to the votes of the sold standard Democrats.
