Best, Mortgagee, Resolutions of Respect. Lilliiigton, X. C., AUT- 29 ; The Ba>* Association of fTnr-' nett county met in the Court House at noon recess, visiting members of the Bar participat ing ancl organized by calling Col. W. Fy. Murchison of Jones boro to the chair.* By request j J. H. Withers C. S. C. acted as secretary. The following resolutions were offered by J. C. Cliffo d of Dunn and unanimously adopt ed. Whereas, God in his wise but mysterious provideue, since the last sitting of this court has seen fit to call Col. John A. Speares from the scenes of this life to his reward beyond the grave ; and Whereas it is the sense of the meeting of the Bar of Harnett county that some formal ex pression be given to the High esteem in which the deceased was held by his brethren of the . Bar of Harnett as well as the members of his profession from other counties who had the pleasure of au association with him. Therefore be it resolved ; 1. That in the death of Col. John A. Speares the Bar of the county of Harnett has lost its oldest and most honored members, a lawyer of signal ability, a scholar eminently cul tured and a gentleman of the oldest school. 2. That the county of Har nett has lost a most useful and honored citizen, pre-eminent in his devotion to his county's every interest and faithful in the fulfillment of every trust whether public or private. 3. That these resolutions be tendered to the court with the request that the same be spread upon the minutes of this court and a copy therof sent so the family of the deceased. At a meeting of the Bar asso- j ciation of Harnett county — others participating, on the 2 ( Jth day of Augu: t 1901 at Lillington, N. C., the follow ing resolutions were unani mously adopted. Whereas, since the last ses sion of this court in the myste rious providence of God, Hon. F. P Jones has been called from the busy scenes of this life to his eternal reward, and Whereas, it is fitting that the members of his profession, his associates, make some perma nent record of the high and honored position held by the deceased in the esteem of his brethren. Therefore be it resolved ; 1. That in the death of Hon. F. P. Jones the Bar of Harnett has lost an honored member, a ; man of great natural strength of both mind and character, learned in his profession and wise in his counsels. 2. That the county of Har nett has lost a citizen whose every energy was devoted to the good of his people . and whose kindly heart ever responded to those who stood in need of his counsel or his aid. 3. That these resolutions be tendered to the court with the request that the same be spread upon the pages of the minutes of this court and a copy thereof be sent to the family of the de ceased. On motion of H. L. Godwin Esq., of Dunn, amended and seconded by Hon. W. S. O'B. Robinson, the secretary was in structed to tender the above res olutions to the court, with re quest that the same be ordered spread upon the minutes of the court and that a page be devot ed to that purpose. After a few fitting words were spoken, attesting the high esteem in which the subjects of these resolutions were held by the brethren, the ascociation adjourned sine die. W. E. Murchison, Ch'm'n. J. H. Withers, C. S. C., Secy. A Typical South African Store. O. R. Larson, of Bay Villa, Sundays River, Cape Colony, conducts a store typical of South Africa, at which can be purchased anything from the proverbial "needle to an an chor." This store is situated in a valley about nine miles from the nearest railway sta tion and about twenty-five miles from the nearest town. Mr. Larson says: "I am favored with the custom of farmers within a radius of thirty miles, to many of whom I have sup plied Chamberlain's remedies. All testify to their value in a household where a doctor's ad vice is almost out of the ques tion. Within one mile of my store the population is perhaps sixty. Of the*e, within the : past twelve months, no less than fourteen have been abso lutely cured by Chamberlain's Cough Remedy. This must surely be a record."
