Several of our citizens are attending Cumberland court at Fayetteville this week. —Note the change in the 'ad' of E. Lea, He has some new Agate Ware that he is now put ting on the market, —There was no preaching at the Presbyterian church Sun day on account of the pastor being sick. ■—Mr. E. Lee says ha will be in his new store by Jan. 20. It will be a nice building and will add much to the looks of that part of the town, —Mr, J. T. Williams, of Mingo township is a king pork er. He killed two last Monday that weighed 1456 pounds. Can anybody beat this? —On Jan. 12th, 1902 at the residence of the bride's mother, Mrs. Polly Tart. Mr. D. T. Barefoot and Miss Sarah E. Tart were united in marriage. H. C. McNeill, J, P, officiating. —Work is progressing nicely on the new brick building ot Massengill, Marks & Co., aud the Merchants and Farmers Bank. When this building is completed it will do credit to the town. —ln this issue you will find an "ad" of Gainey & Jordan, headed "Make Home Happy." The ladies will do well to read it. They may have the thing you are looking for. The "New Home" leads all others. —Messrs. Ben, Sam and W r . A. Meadows, who we are sorry to note, is quite ill. —'While having some cotton loaded Monday, Mr. S. J. Hooks fell between the cotton platform and car. The truck and the gang plauk both fell on him, at first it was thought that he was seriously hurt, but we are glad to learn that there was no serious damage done. —Mr. J. C. Barrington and family, of Pamlico county, have recently located in Dunn. Mr. Barrington has accepted a position with Mr. P. T. Mass engill. Mr. Barrington comes to us highly recommended as a high toned christian gentleman and a first-class business man. We are glad to welcome him and his estimable wife to our town. —We are pleased to learn that the Hon. Dan Hugh McLean, as Secretary and Treasurer of the N. C. R. R. has given such perfect satisfaction to the of ficials of the road. We have always known him capable of filling with credit to himself and with honor to his county, any position of responsibility with which the people of North Carolina might entrust him. —One day last week Mr. J. J. Wilson was called to Benson again with his blood-hounds to catch another thief. His dogs »t once started on the trail and for some time tracked the burg lor well. The .thief evidently expected to be trailed with dogs as he did everything he could to hinder them. He made his escape but not on account of the dogs not doing their duty. The people should always try to guard .against anything that would tend to throw the dogs off the track. One trouble is that everybody wants to go and this should be guarded against, as it is impossible to track every thief and nothing should be done that would cause the dogs 4o lose the trail.
