The twenty-five teachers attending the Teachers Institute here had the pleasure of hearing some delightful and instructive lectures at the court house. Superintendent Alderman was master of ceremonies and acted well his part. By the way, by way of parenthesis, we wish to say that the people of Chowan county are fortunate in having such alive county superintendent. His soul is in the work and Chel an county has made fvonderful strides a'ong, educational lines under his supervision. We do not hesitate to say that it will be difficult to find an equal for his People very often fail to appreciate the excellent services of a man till after, he is gone. After the Superintendent s in troductory remaijt3lfs introdaced Dr. Cooper of the State Board' of Health. Dr. Cooper gave a most interesting illustrated lecture on the "Fly Kemaikable are the statements that are made about this most common of all nests. Of course 4, we have heard some of these fig ures before, but people so easily forget that it is well . to remind them. One fly is capable of car rying more than 6 million germs. 60$ of the typhoid germs are ear ned by the fly. Other means of transmitting the germ of typhoid is through water, sewage, dairies. etc., the cause of 8 deaths from typhoid iri Greensboro having been traced directly to. a dairy in the country. Dr. Cooper went on to tell how the death rate from typhoid is so much s greater m rural districts than in town the rate being about 3 to 1.
