BOYS LEAVE* An immerse crowd was at the train Wednesday to see the boys leave for war. People were here from adjoining counties as well as all over Chowan. ■ The entire school turned out marching in a body. At the train the school sang "The Star bpangled Ban ner.'* Before going to the train the boys were given a luncheon at the Bay View hotel. The dining room was decorated in flags and at each place were cigars and cigarettes. A subscription was taken by Capt. J. L. Wiggins to buy cigars and so forth to give the boys as they left- All the boys whose names appeared in this paper last week left except Messrs. T. C. By rum, Daniel Me* Beeves, and C. H. Clough who were substitutes. Eden tea Graded School Opened Loot Monday. The' Bdcnton Graded behoofs opened last Monday with an en rollment in the white school of 870 pupils. This is an enrollment oi 40 beginners and an unusually Urge high school. The compul sory age limit has been raised to 14 years this year and the com pulsory term has been made six months instead of four months. There is a considerable number who must come in, in order the compulsory school Uw may * be complied with.
