Bogs' Brookside farm. Waynesville. The quality of these grapes is very satisfactory. There has been a trifle advance 11 the puce of chickens, and the demand con tinurs unusuilly good. Eggs are selling at 10 cents wholesale, with a tendency to oversupply. The apple supply is also some greater tha" tDC demand. Watermelons miv yet be obtaired. Many gave to roasting ears a fond farewell two weeks ago, but the supply is yet quite good. Opossums, squirrels, rabbits and tur keys remind us that autumn is here The latter sell at from 75c. to $1. Ducks are selling: at from 20 to 30. Pumpkins ate recent additions to the produce list, and are selling at lron 7 to 15 cents apiece. Kershaw s at 123 to 20 cents apiece are also on the comparatively new list. Some prices for produce are: Potatoes, 15 a peck; apples, 15; beans, 'AO. an ad vance over last week; onions, 5 a quart; beets. 5; roasting ears, 12 to 15, an ad vacce over last week ; cucumbers, 2 for Scents; eggs, 11 to 121? cents. a reduc tion; okra, 10; egg plant, 10 to 15; grape. 23 to 30 a basket; sweet pota toes, x o ro Ju; cabbage, 5; carrots, 5 a buocb; lima beans, 12 to 15. THEY WANT LIU II r. How Much Will You do to Aid Them to KeaoUltf Editor The Citizen. At tbe monthly meeting of the Flower Mission October 5 tbe subject of getting the children of the poor to attend school was considered, and it was decided that herealter, unless excellent leasons exist for a child re maining out of school, superintendents of wards shall nfuse to help those fami lies whose children are kept at home. Tile excuse most often given by parents for their negligence in this respect is that the childreu have not sufficient clothing, and this is too frequently trjiejai.d that upon those who profess to believe rhood of man. lnstendnl there beng 18 or 20 active numbers ot tbe Flower Mission in this city, there should be ISO; and if this were so, as it might easily be. there would not be in Asbeville a child who was forced to stay away Irom school for lack of clothts. There is a mighty lorce in association, and it is a subject ol wonder that more ol the earnest women ol tbe town are not Flower Mission workers. Tbe elurity is absolutely nor sectarian, and it is certainly one place where social dis unctions arc waived, and woman meets woman, cnvi.us only of excelling in loving services ot tbe necdv, filled with no rivalry save that of good deeds If those who cannot join the society and still are desirous of aiding this cause of educating tbe poor children will communicate with any superin tendent of a ward tbey can be sbown some particular child upon whom to concentrate their eflorts, and this con centration would result in far more ef fective charity than the giving of an occasional garment here and there. It seems yet as far away before com pulsorv education can become a law in North Carolina, bat in the meantime much can be done by the individual citi zen; and in the name of all that educa tion means for the bDdiesand souls of the little on;s, in the name; cf love and truth and justice, let it not ;be said that here in tbe midst ot us are shi verintr barefoot children, who, standing in reach oi idc light, yet must grope iin darkness, shut out from their one chahce for useful manhood and womanhood for Isck of ihecast-;fl garments of the rich and weli-tc-do. .-.
