Six hack drivers were placed under 'arrest yesterday charged with violating the hack ordinance. It was said that the hackmen had made nuisances of themselves by driving about the gov ernment building and at the foot of iiattery Park hill and soliciting patron age w nile doing so. The nackmen w ere given a hearing before Police Justice Carter this morning and put on notice that the practice must be stopped. One key tits a lock which will be fastened about the pony's neck. Yesterday an Ashevilie gentleman met a little girl pupil of Montford school who was cast for a part in the cantata at the Grand. He asked her, whom he knew well, if she was to take part, and on receiving an affirmative answer asked what her part was. "1 am one of the original 13 states," she replied. "Which do you represent?'' the gentleman asked. "New York." Without a second thonght, and having foremost in his mind the fact that his little friend was a native of Kentucky, he asked "Why don't you represent Kentucky?" Looking up into the gentleman's face with a gaze that combined gentle reproof with a little of pity she replied "Why, sir, don't you know that Kentucky was not one of the original 13?"
