THE CHOICE OFTHE PEOPLE- How a "Citizen" Correspondent Thinks it Should Ba Reached. Editor The Citizen: As long as the Democratic party is not permitted to select candidates who represent the choice of the people, but allow them selves to be dominated by caucusses and ward politicians. Just so long will it be liable to defeat. The so-cahed pri maries are nothing but ward conven tions, managed by a few who are by no means the representative men of the party or of the city. We can never obtain the choice of the people except by a free ballot. Let an election be held and evry citizn vote for his choice from the candidates who offer, the one receiving the majority of votes cast to be the nominee. It will not do to advance the idea that people will not take the trouble to come out to vote. They have never had the opportunity offered, as properly conducted primaries have never pre vailed. Numbers do not attend novv-a-days because not being politicians, they are not up to the tricks of the pro fession and are not disposed to be brought In contact nor wrangle with, these aspirants who take the prominent part in the proceedings and pose as the self-constituted leaders of the party. At first it seemed to work badly on ac count of the gas in the stomach, but now, since I am accustomed to it, I can see the Improvement with every bot tle." Another says: "I have visited every one of sixty patients on your treatment and with one exception they are all en thusiastic in its praise. That one has only been taking it a week and will doubtless feel better after the stomach Is accustomed to the gas. My conclu sion is that my friends, for whom 1 have made this investigation, must take the gas. It is the only hope." The following letter is a sample of re- receivea from abroad every day. Alexa.
