Campbell has been preach ing from the book of Genesis at the Sunday evening services. Last night his subject w as the Deluge. He showed that two principles mani fested themselves In the family of our first parents the principle of nature and of grace, or the flesh and the Spir it. Cain was the representative or tne former. Abel of the latter. I'pon the death of Abel -Seth was given of God to Eve to take the place of righteous AbeL and the two opposing principles of nature and grace were developed in the descendants of Cain and Seth. The descendants of Cain were distinguished bv material prosperity and a brilliant and proud civilization, but also by sen suality, pride and violence. The descendants or setn, on tne oiner hand, were distinguished by personal piety and household religion the true worship of God being handed down from one generation to another, its in fluence culminating in such eminent characters as Enoch and Lantech and Noah. But the Sethites finally became dis satisfied with their quiet life and began to covet the more brilliant features of the Cainite civilization. Especially were they attracted by the beauty ana worldly charms of the Cainite women. This is the meaning of that verse which has puzzled some: And tt came to pass when men began to multiply on the face of the earth and daughters were born unto them, that the sons or God saw the daughters of men that they were fair, and they took them wives of all which they chose". (Gen. 6:1-2). In the days of Enos, the son of Seth, the Sethites had already begun to call themselves by the name of the Lord (Gen. 4:26 marginal reading). They were the sons of God. It was these promiscuous marriages that corrupted the descendants of Seth, until there was only one righteous man left. This was the cause of the hood, which svert away the whole race, ex cept Noah and his household, from the face of the earth. Dr. Campbell then showed that the two principles developed in the lines of Cain and Seth respectively, have still their representatives on earth in the people of God and the people of the world. "That which is born or tne nesn is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit." Alliances of the people of God with the world win leaa to a repetition of the pride and violence and corruption which prevailed in Noah's day. With all our boastings about our civ ilization, the world is hastening on to a greater catastrophe than the Deluge. "As it was in the days of Noah, so shall also the coming of the Son of Man be. For as in the days that were be fore the Hood, they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in mar riage, and knew not till the Hood came and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of Man be. Watch, therefore;" for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come.' (Matt. 24:37-42.) WANTED A good experienced lec turer at the dooi. Apply No. Is Patton avenue, at once.
