C„ came in Sat urday, and is stopping for an outing with H. P. Clarke. Walter Wood. Jess Pickelslmer, Thos. Galloway and Briscoe Ledbetter left this week for school at Chapel Hill. A young man by the name of San ders, son of Sam Sanders of Hogback, met with a painful accident eight days ago. It seems he was chopping wood and made a mlsllck, the ax striking his foot just back of the toes, cutting all off except the little toe. Dr. Eng lish was called and reports Mr. San ders as doing well. The amputa'ed part was stitched back on. W. A. Perrett. of Allegheny. Pa., who j has been in Brevard the past six months, has returned to Ills home very much improved in health. He is so favorably Impressed with our climate that ho will return to spend the win ter here after a month's visit at his home. — Sam Nichols, whose pleasant count enance has been one of the drug store fixtures during the past season, has accepted a position in Astieville and left Wednesday to assume his new duties. Mrs. J. J. Andrews and daughter. Miss Blanche, of Tarboro. who have been visiting Mrs. W. W. Piper, re turned to their home Saturday. W. E. Breese. Jr., is busily engaged In getting out the town tax. A few more days and the list will be In the collector's hands. Eliza Cox and sister, Miss Minnie, who recently came to Brevard from Cleveland, S. C.. have rented rooms in Dock A. H. King’s residence and are housekeeping. Will Stradley. of Hendersonville hotel notoriety, was a Brevard business visitor yesterday. Fred Miller has gone to Raleigh to attend A & M College. Jim Aiken will pay the highest mar ket prices for 10,000 bushels of tops and fodder. Mrs. Wharton reports that school is progressing well. HAS NARROW ESCAPE IX AUTO ACCIDENT SUNDAY Lawrence Whitmire, son of Mr. and Mrs. Loon Whitmire, had a very nar row escape from serious Injury early Sunday morning, when his car failed to make the bridge on Pickens highway, near Rosman. Mr. Whitmire said he went to sleep and woke up Just as the ear left the highway and turned over In the river. Mr. Whitmire received one bad cut above the eye, otherwise he escaped with slight cuts and bruises. The car was a closed Chevrolet and was badly i damaged.
