The meeting was attended by more than 200 delegates and visitors and dtstrict and state officials. Those from the local clubs attending the meeting were: Mrs. Goode Loftis, Mrs. Ed Loftis, Mrs. Cordla King, Mrs. L. K. Ratchford, Mrs. Burt Loomis, Mrs. J. S. Nicholson. Mrs. J. C. Wlke, Mrs. A. a Gillespie and Mrs. G. H. Lyday, of the Fortnightly club; Mrs. E. J. Coltrane, Mrs. A. H. Kizer and Mrs. A. H. Harris, of the Wednesday club; Mrs. J. A. Glazcner, of the Math ataslan club. The Fortnightly club was winner of the district gavel for having the largest percentage of members present, with distance considered. Mrs. Goode Loftis. president, gave the report for the Fortnightly club; Mrs. Coltrane, president, for the Wed-j nesday club; and Mrs. Glazener presi dent, for the Mathataslan club. Mrs, John S. Forrest, district presi-1 dent, of Hendersonville, presided over the meeting. An invitation was accept ed from the Burnsville women's club to hold the next district meeting in Burnsville. V. D. C. Main Street Opp. Court Houee Pay Your Subscription METHODIST SOCIETY HEARS TALK ON PALESTINE TRAVELS Adding much to the Interest of the regular meeting of the Women's Mis sionary society of the Methodist church, held Thursday afternoon In the ladles' parlor, was a talk by Miss Irene Clay, of the Brevard College faculty, telling of her travels In the Holy Land, In Cairo, Egypt, and elsewhere, and of her experiences In a mission school In Palestine where she taught last year. Preceding Miss Clays talk a vocal solo, "Spirit of God," was rendered by Miss Harriet Klllough, also of the col lege faculty, accompanied by Miss Clay at the piano. During the business proceedings, In charge of the president, Mrs. Burt Loomis, plans were made for the mis sion study class to be held four after noons this week at_the church, on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Fri day. Mrs. Oliver Orr Is teacher of the class, studying the book concerning women In India. Plans were also dis cussed regarding the annual Week of Prayer, and it was decided to observe it with an afternoon session on Wed nesday, November 9, at 3 o’clock at the church. Mrs. Loomis gave the meditation talk on "Spiritual Unemployment,” on the general topic theme, “Serving in the Heart of Africa." KIWANIS DIRECTORS MEET WITH MR. AND MRS. JONES Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Jones entertained members of the Brevard Kiwanis club directors Friday evening at their home on the Country club road with dinner. Following the delicious dinner served by Mrs. Jones, business matters were transacted, with the following officials of the club present for the occasion: The Rev. C. M. Jones, Dr. H. J. Bradley, C. The Ann Judson circle, held at the home of Mrs. Roy Long, was presided over by Mrs. Long, as chairman, who also led the devotlonals. Mrs. J. B. Jones was program leader, reviewing chapters In the mission study book on the Life of Dazll Lee Lockett. Mrs. Yancey C. Elliott led the opening pray er. Fourteen members were present. The November meeting will be held at the home of Mrs. J. B. Jones. Mrs. Albert Payne was hostess to the members of the Henrietta Hall Circle at her home In North Brevard. Mrs. Lester fo. Martin, chairman, con ducted the business and led the de votlonals. The last chapter In the study book was reviewed by Mrs. Joe Poole. The next meeting will be held with Mrs. C. J. Goodwin at her home at Lake Sega. The meeting of the Lottie Moon circle was held at the home of Mrs. Lem Brooks, with the chairman, Mrs. Har old Norwood, presiding and conducting the program on personal service. Plans were discussed for the all-day meeting for mission study to be held at the church Tuesday. A large number of members was present. Each hostess served refreshments during the social hour. PROGRAM OF INTEREST AT WEDNESDAY CLUB MEETING A program of interest and reports of the district meeting In Asheville were features of the regular meeting of the Brevard Wednesday club, held Wednesday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Thomas Wylie. Mrs. F. P. Sledge was program lead er, telling interesting and informative facts concerning Great Britain. Mrs. Frank Jenkins assisted on the pro gram, stressing other phases of the general topic. Mrs. E. J. Coltrane, president, in charge of routine business, also gave report of the district meeting in Ashe ville, with other facts of the meeting given by Mrs. A. H. Klzer and Mrs. A. H. Harris. Following a lovely salad course serv ed buffet style in the dining room, the club adjourned to meet on November 2 at the home of Mrs. A. H. Harris. The hostess was assisted in serving by Miss Mary Ward and Mrs. Edith Beam, of New York City, house guests of Mrs. David Ward. MARRIAGE OF INTEREST IN SOUTH CAROLINA Mr. and Mrs. W. W. George, of Pen rose. have announced the marriage of their daughter, Mary Carolyn, to O. J. Davis, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. O. J. Davis, of Wellford, S. C. The cere mony was performed on Thursday, October 13, at the home of the Rev. C. E. Vermillion, In Spartanburg, S. C. Mrs. Davis is a graduate of the Bre vard high school and of Cecil's Busi ness college, Asheville. She has made her home in Spartanburg the past five years, where she is employed at the R. A. Harblson |Funjlture company. Mr. Davis received his education In the Spartanburg county schools and at Presbyterian College Clinton, S. C. He is now connected with the Startex Bleachery. Mr. and Mrs. Davis are residing at 129 Irwin avenue, Spartanburg. PRESBYTERIAN AUXILIARY MET THURSDAY AFTERNOON The Auxiliary of the Presbyterian church held the October meeting Thurs day afternoon at the Hut. Mrs. Willis Brittain, president, con ducted the routine business, after which Mrs. C. L. Newland led the program on home missions. Mrs. T. H. Shipman, Mrs. Harry Pat ton and Mrs. Fred Miller were In charge of refreshments served during a short social period. FIDELIS CLASS WILL MEET FRIDAY AFTERNOON 28TR Announcement has been made of the meeting of the Fidelia class of the Baptist church, which will be held Fri day afternoon of this week at 3:30 o'clock at the home of Mrs. Judson McCrary. BAPTISTS TO HAVE MI88ION STUDY CLASS ON TUESDAY Plans are being completed by ladles of the Baptist church for a mission study class to be held Tuesday at the church in an all-day session, begin ning at 10:30 o’clock. The title of the study book is "For This Cause," by Inabelle Coleman. Mrs. Yancey C. Elliott,_misslon study chairman, will secure leaders to re view the different chapters of the book during the day. A covered dish lunch, provided by ladies in attendance, will be served at noon. A special Invitation has been extended to ladles of the rural Baptist churches of the county to attend the services Tuesday. MISSION STUDY CLASS IN PROGRESS THIS WEEK A mission study class sponsored by the women’s missionary society of the Methodist church Is in progress at the church four afternoons this week. The series of studies began Monday after noon and will conclude with the ser vice Friday afternoon at 3 o'clock. Mrs. Oliver Orr Is mission study leader, assisted by other members for the different afternoons. The study book Is “The Church Takes Root In India," by Basil Mathews. Those reviewing the^ chapters of the book include: Mrs. E J. Coltrane, leader for Monday: Mrs. Burt Loomis and Miss Dulcie Hayes, Tuesday lead ers; Miss Myra Blnford, Wednesday leader; and Mrs. C. GARDEN CLUB REARS TALK ON HOUSE PLANT GROWTH Featuring the October meeting of the Garden club was an informative talk by Mrs. Frank Jenkins on the growth and care of house plants. Mrs. Pat Kimzey, president, con ducted the routine business, and ap pointed the following nominating com mittee; Mrs. J. W. Smith, chairman, Mrs. Joe Poole and Mrs. John Maxwell. The program committee for the year was named as follows: Miss Myra Bin ford, Mrs. M. G. Pangle and Mrs. C. E. | Buckner. Mrs. T. H. Shipman was first win ner in the artistic flower arrangement, and Mrs. Coltrane won second honors. Mrs. E. R. Pendleton won first honor for the best specimen, with Mrs. Con stance Pendleton Banks as second win ner. Dainty refreshments served by the hostess concluded the meeting. HOUSE WARMING IS ENJOYABLE OCCASION Mrs. T. H. Hampton, Jr., was given a delightful surprise house-warmtng Thursday evening by a number of friends and neighbors, as a welcome arrival in the neighborhood.
