SINOINO CONVENTION TO BE HELD SUNDAY Dear Editor: I wish to announce the county sing ing convention, which Is to convene next Sunday at the court house in Brevard, will begin promptly at 10 o'clock. LOCAL COUPLE MARRIES IN SOUTH CAROLINA Miss Ruth Hall, and Vardery McCall both of the Gloucester section were married in South Carolina Saturday. Mrs. McCall Is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Hall. Mr. McCall Is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Burton McCall. The couple will reside In Gloucester. REPORTS SECOND CROP OF JUNE APPLES HERE Oscar Barrett reports a second crop of red June apples on a tree at his home here. The second crop was fully developed but not quite aslarge as the flrgt crop. FISHER CULLOWHEE, Oct 22—Announce ment was made of the engagement of Miss Virginia Anne Gustafson, of Cul lowhee, to James Washington Fisher, of Rosman, at a party Saturday even ing at the Carolina hotel, Sylva. The party was given by several members of the faculty of Western Carolina Teachers’ college, of Cullowhee. ‘Miss Gustafson Is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Gustafson, of Kansas City, Mo. She Is a member of the music department of Western Car olina Teachers’ college, and Is a grad uate of the Eastman School of Music, Rochester, N. T. She Is a musician of unusual ability and has received wide recognition as a concert violinist Mr. Fisher Is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Lee R. Fisher of Rosman, and Is a graduate of Western Carolina Teach ers’ college. He Is now teaching at the Griffith school In Winston-Salem. Among the guests Included In the courtesy were Mr. and _Mrs. H. Miss June Crawford spent last Sat urday night with Miss Jewell Owen. Julius Owen was bitten by a black widow spider last Sunday. He was Im mediately seriously 111 and was rushed to the doctor. Mr. and Mrs. Claude Owen were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Hender son last Friday night. Mr. and Mrs. John Rufty of Brevard visited Mrs. L. E. Reece Saturday af ternoon. Little Loretta Gall Henderson was quite sick last Saturday night. Mrs. Elvln Edney Is spending some days with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Henderson. Mr. and Mrs. Harley Fisher were dinner guests of Mrs. Gideon Miller Sunday. Little James Medford Chapman has been seriously ill for some time. Relatives have had a nice monument erected In Oak Grove cemetery at the grave of Mrs. James Chapman. Mr. and Mrs. Elbert Whitmire have moved out of the house with Mrs. Gideon Miller Into their own house at Reids Siding, and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Fisher have moved Into the house with Mrs. Miller. The young people’s Democratic club of this community had a chicken sup per at the school house last Friday night for the benefit of the school lunch room at Quebec school, and about seventeen dollars was raised for this purpose. The building committee and pastor of Oak Grove church met on Tuesday night of last week and decided to be gin the work of tearing down Oak Grove church house this week. Th# plan decided on was to meet Tues day to remove the seats to the house of M. O. McCall which Is occupied by Mr. and Mrs.’ J. D. Powell, and then me6t Thursday to begin taking down the celling. As soon as the old house Is torn down and the rubbish cleared away, they expect to begin the work of building the new house. # Brick Houses Save Fuel.... That disturbing coal bill is less for well-built brick houses. Brick houses are warmer in winter and cooler in summer than wooden structures.
