On Mars Hill Gridiron
Coaches Christenbury and Farthing, and their
two leaders, Taggart and Proctor, are shown at the
right figuring together on best plans to defeat Mars
Hill Lions on Thanksgiving Day.
The annual event will be played at Mars Hill,
and if Brevard fans runs true to form, there will be
more Transylvanians at the game than there are
Madisonians.
So far, Brevard has been unable to defeat Rob
erts’ squad, but the boys are looking forward eager
ly to Thusday’s tilt, believing that 1938 will be a dif
ferent story. Below the Mars Hill squad is shown.
Here is the pack of Mars Hill Lions who have been giving their opposition plenty of trouble this year on
the football field. They close their season on Thanksgiving day when they tackle Brevard at Mars Hill in
their annual turkey day clash.
They are, from left to right: First row—Hobson, Pinnell, Edwards, White, Brown, Haithcock and Eaks.
Second row—Stringfield, Fitzgerald, Hall, Gianakos, Murray, Morrison, Ball, Ingle and Barksdale. Third

In Memory Of
BOBBY ENGLISH
The hand of Death reached out and
snatched the life of little Robert Thom
j as English on Monday, November 14,
and took from our community a ray
of sunshine and a well of happiness.
Without warning, the three and one
half year old child was struck by an
automobile and life ebbed slowly from
his battered body until near the mid
night hour when doctors were forced
to give up their fight to save the tiny
life and the soul was wafted to Heaven
as the morning of another day was
seeking entrance to the day nearly
gone, and sorrow crept in and shadow
ed the North Brevard community as
the bright face of Bobby paled in
death.
Last rites for the lad were conduct
ed Wednesday morning by tne itev.
E. P. Billups, pastor of Brevard Meth
odist church, and the little body was
carried to the grave at Oak Grove by
Hoy McCall, Kay Simpson, Junior
Corliett, and Roy Meece, with Mary
Louise Galloway. Christine McCall,
Mary Alice Tinsley, Betty Taylor, Jo
Anne Galloway, and Mary Anne Eng
lish placing flowers on the heaped
mound that covered the last remains.
"Have Thine Own Way.” and "Lord.
When We Have Not Any Light,” were
songs that friends sung over the body,
and envisioned the hope of life eternal
for the tender soul in the realm of
music, beauty and loveliness In the
Land Beyond.
Son of William Lucian and Beune
English. Bobby was born on June 28th,
1935, and died November 14. 1938.
