FIREMEN ANSWER
(Continued From Page One)
was the first person awakened by
smoke and she aroused occupants
of the other apartments, while Mrs.
Ollie Galloway turned in the alarm
to the fire department.
Publisher Ed M. Anderson had
the highest praise for the mem
bers of the local fire department, i
who expertly put out the blaze and j
prevented an extremely serious
fire.
Last Friday afternoon the fire
men were called out to extinguish
a small blaze in one of the apart
ment kitchens in Ross hall on the
Brevard college campus. Little
damage was done except a smoked
up wall. It was caused by burning
grease on the stove.
Firemen and occupants of the
faculty apartments alike were1
thankful that the fire was a small
one. They recalled the serious dam
ages that were done to the faculty
apartment house several years ago.
Last Thursday about noon the
firemen were called out to put out
a brush fire on East Main street,
and the afternoon before they ex
tinguished a similar one on Maple
street extension.
