MAKES BIG FLORIDA DEAL

tel at St. Petersburg, Fla.

following item which will be of in
terest to our readers. The Alexan
ders referred to in the article are
too well known here to need men
tion. The Thorns are natives of
Polk county, and Rev. J. B. Thorn
of Rutherford county is their uncle:
Purchase of a 215-foot frontage on
Central avenue from Seventh street
east by J; P. Alexander, A. C. Alex
ander, J. N. Thorn, C. G. Thorn
and Miss Myrtle Thorn at an aver
age price of S4OO per front foot, a
total of $86,000, was announced yes
terday along with the further an
nouncement that a seven-story, 250-
roorn hotel will be erected on the
west 100 feet of the property with a
total investment of from $350,000 to
$400,000. All of the lots purchased
are 100 feet deep.
J, P. Alexander came here from
Forest City, N. C. His brother,
A. C. Alexander, is from Waverly
Hall, Ga. J. P. Alexander has been
coming here for eight years as a
tourist, but until last year he made
only minor investments, including
a five acre grove on Ninth street
Last year he bought the property
on the north side of Central avenue
between Fifth and Sixth streets,
where he is now erectiug the Alex
A 0. Alexander, his brother, last
spring bought the lot. at the north
west corner of Second aveuue and
Fifth street south from W. H Bryan.
Upon the property he is planning
to erect a modern three-story apart
ment house early next spring.
The Alexander brothers are en
gaged in the lumber business in
Georgia, Alabama and South Caro
The Thorn family, which is inter
ested in the deal for the purchase of
the Central avenue site and in the
plans for ths election of the new ho
tel, has been prominent in the hotel
circles of the city for 14 years, dur
ing all of which time members of
that familv, with J N. Thorn as
manager, have owned and conduct
ed the entral hotel on Second street
Plans for the new hotel will be
drawn by architects during the next
few weeks. It is to be seven stories
in height, of brick construction and
thorough y modern in every detail.
Messrs. J horn and Alexander said
yesterday afternoon that they had
definitely decided upon the ef*ection
of the hotel on the property and
that actual construction would start
the early part of the coming year.
It is their intention to have the
building completed and ready for
use during the season of 1921.
In addition to the purchase of this
property and the proposed erection
of another hotel, J. F. Alexander
has changed the plans for the Alex
ander hotel on the north side of the
avenue. The original plans called
" for a 50-nxm; hotel, three stories in
height. The new plan will add an
other story and 25 more rooms, giv
ing a total of 75 rooms and 71 baths.
This hotel will be ready for open
ing about Dec. 15. It will be oper
ated by Robert Ely, of Bob's Cafe
teria fame. Mr. Ely will conduct
another cafeteria in the ground floor
room of the building. H. H. Carson
is the contractor now engaged in
the erection of this building.
