Alexander has been coming here for eight years as a tourist, but until last year he made only minor investments, including a five acre grove on Ninth street south. Last year he bought the property on the north side of Central avenue between Fifth and Sixth streets, where he is now erectiug the Alex ander hotel. A 0. Alexander, his brother, last spring bought the lot. at the north west corner of Second aveuue and Fifth street south from W. H Bryan. Upon the property he is planning to erect a modern three-story apart ment house early next spring. The Alexander brothers are en gaged in the lumber business in Georgia, Alabama and South Caro lina. The Thorn family, which is inter ested in the deal for the purchase of the Central avenue site and in the plans for ths election of the new ho tel, has been prominent in the hotel circles of the city for 14 years, dur ing all of which time members of that familv, with J N. Thorn as manager, have owned and conduct ed the entral hotel on Second street north. Plans for the new hotel will be drawn by architects during the next few weeks. It is to be seven stories in height, of brick construction and thorough y modern in every detail. Messrs. J horn and Alexander said yesterday afternoon that they had definitely decided upon the ef*ection of the hotel on the property and that actual construction would start the early part of the coming year. It is their intention to have the building completed and ready for use during the season of 1921. In addition to the purchase of this property and the proposed erection of another hotel, J. F. Alexander has changed the plans for the Alex ander hotel on the north side of the avenue. The original plans called " for a 50-nxm; hotel, three stories in height. The new plan will add an other story and 25 more rooms, giv ing a total of 75 rooms and 71 baths. This hotel will be ready for open ing about Dec. 15. It will be oper ated by Robert Ely, of Bob's Cafe teria fame. Mr. Ely will conduct another cafeteria in the ground floor room of the building. H. H. Carson is the contractor now engaged in the erection of this building. FOREST CITY COURIER How's This?
